Cleaning ceiling fans

I hate cleaning ceiling fans.  How often do you clean and how do you clean yours?

Re: Cleaning ceiling fans

  • Ours are on pretty much year round, so they really don't pile up dust, but I use an extendable duster twice a year (when we switch directions). I also waxed the tops of the blades when we installed them last year as a preventative measure.

Before DH I didn't use fans much, so I had to actually wipe them down with a damp cloth a couple times a year or they would fling dust when they were turned on.

  • We have ours on a lot, but they still get dusty.  I can reach a few by getting on the bed and clean the blades one by one with a colorx wipe.  I do the same with the LR one, but have to get the ladder out.  I have had to clean them twice already this summer and usually just once during winter.

  • I saw a brilliant idea to pull a pillowcase over the entire blade then pull it back so all the dust stays contained and not flying all over the room.  I haven't tried it but will next time I need to dust the fan.

Going to have to try this!
