Iphone question

So I am not due for an upgrade with AT&T until October but I was wondering if it really mattered on the new iphones? I mean if I spend $399 now is it still going to be $399 in October when I upgrade?

I didn't think they really do discounts on the new phones (especially the iphones) but then I was thinking of maybe waiting until the holidays to see if they have any sales.

I'm so indecisive! Tongue Tied

Any comments?

Re: Iphone question

  • I was eligible for an upgrade earlier than I thought.  My 16GB iPhone was $199.
  • The husband qualified back in May and went in June to get the 3GS (not the newest one) b/c his is dying but he's had it for 2 years. They told him it would still be $199 or he could get the newest for $399. He walked out so I don't know what his plan is now but he needs a new phone. I think he's just pissed at AT&T/iPhone for the lack of upgrades unless you don't have iPhone.

  • if you can get the upgrade the iphone 4 is $199 with a new 2yr contract other wise it's $399 (for the 16g) to buy it outright with out signing a new 2yr contract.

My advice. Wait till you are eligible for the upgrade.

  • The iPhone upgrades have been changed [not quite sure with which generation] for ATT users, you don't have to wait until your two year contract is almost up anymore. You should be able to get your upgrade after a year. That's how we have been able to get our upgrade with each new release.

This. If you currently have an iPhone and are eligible for an upgrade ANY time in 2010, then you can get the iPhone 4 at the $199 pricing.  If for some reason they tell you that you can't, then call AT&T.

Yes but ONLY if it's up that year. Mine wasn't up till 2011 but thank heavens dh's was up other wise I would have had to pay $399 to get the 4. . I used his upgrade to get the iPhone 4 since the week prior to it's release my iPhone 3 decided to take a swim in the toilet at work :( dh will use my upgrade next year to get his new iPhone .

  • ::Butting in:: If your contract expires in 2010 or early 2011 (I dunno what the cutoff is, mine was in Jan and I was eligible), then you are eligible for the "early upgrade".  I don't know offhand the price of the 32g, but the 16g upgrade price is $199.  If you aren't desperate to replace your phone *right now*, then wait for your upgrade, but if your contract is up before January, then you are eligible for upgrade now.  Additionally, order online.  You wait a few days, yes, but shipping is free and you don't have to stand in line for hours.  If you are concerned about your upgrade, just do everything through the AT&T website, which operates remarkably well for the whole thing.
