restaurant suggestions

Hi Ladies!  We will be visiting IN later this year and wanted to get some downtown restaurants.  We will be staying in the NW side of Indy.

Do you have any good sushi and/ or seafood recs?  I saw a place called Sushi on the Rocks on restaurant.com.  Has anyone tried this place?

How about Italian or burgers?

We are looking to stay around $50 or less for dinner for two.

TIA!

Re: restaurant suggestions

  • Hi! I hope you have a great time in Indy! I know you asked for downtown suggestions, and these are sort of spread out--sorry about that!

Here are some of my favorites:

Mama Carolla's is in Broadripple and is a super cute family owned italian. Romantic, reasonable, but I would check and see if you can make a reservation.  http://www.mamacarollas.com/

Rick's Boatyard Cafe is on the Eagle Creek reservoir on the westside and has a great seafood/broad menu. If it is nice, sit outside it is lovely!!

    Northside:

The Capri--I have not been there in the last few years, but my mom went recently and said it was really nice.  http://www.capriindy.com/

Sangiovese--moved recently and I have heard their new location is better than the first, and I really liked it before! http://www.sangioveseristorante.com/home.html

Naked Chopsticks is a place I have heard has great sushi! I think it is pretty reasonable.

Should you end up downtown for dinner, Nicky Blanes is our favorite place for a really nice romantic cocktail! We like to go before dinner before it gets crowded and smokey, as it can late at night.  http://www.nickyblaines.com/

I would be happy to provide more details about any of these places if you'd like more info! Have a wonderful time!

  • Hello!

I took my mom to Sushi on the Rocks for her birthday a couple of years ago.  We thought that it was very good.  The evening that we went they also had 1/2 price martinis & a 1/2 price sushi menu...and a live jazz band.  They do have a website too so you may want to check it out for their specials.

For Italian the Old Spaghetti Factory downtown is good.  It's very reasonably priced and has been around as long as I can remember.  We have friends who come into town for the Indy 500 every year and insist on making trip to OSF during their visit.

My favorite brew pub downtown is Rock Bottom...they also have great food.  And another suggestion if you're interested in going to a bar is The Slippery Noodle...it's Indy's oldest bar, they have live blues bands, and good food!

Seafood:  I've never been, but have heard that Oceanaire is awesome.  It's pricey though.  I have been to Kona Jack's, it's north of downtown...but it was great!  They also serve sushi.

Rock Bottom is totally one of our favorite spots too!! I can't believe I forgot to mention that one! There is one up NW too, but the one downtown is a much more festive feel. But same food and beer at both locations. The burgers are great--but the mac and cheese is awesome too!!

  • I went to Sushi on the Rocks this summer and a cockroach crawled out from under the chillers that sit on the sushi bar. The staff reacted like it was nothing and the manager didn't even offer to comp our meal. I definitely do not recommend going there.

I can second the rec for Naked Tchopsticks (or however you spell it). I had my birthday dinner there a few years ago and it was great!

  • For italian a must is Ambrosia Centro...there is a location in broad ripple and they recently opened a location downtown and it is fabulous and true italian!!!

For burgers downtown go to Weber Grill...their food is amazing and reasonably priced and their burgers are fabulous!  They grill everything there on huge open charcoal grills...also a must!

For seafood or sushi downtown, I have heard good things about Sushi on the Rocks and you can't beat those coupons on Restaurant.com!  If you're willing to splurge a little for seafood then go to Oceanaire...sure to be a treat!

    Enjoy!!!

  • I know nothing about Sushi on the Rocks, but others have recommended Naked Tchopstix--I wouldn't.  The food is ok, not great; the service is pretty bad.  I like Ocean World off 86th/Ditch (NW side).

For Italian: NW side, go to Amalfi (also off 86th/Ditch); DT: Iaria's or Milano Inn.  Mama Corolla's as others suggested is also good.  For burgers: Boogie Burger in Broad Ripple.  It's nothing fancy, but the food is good and cheap.

Other DT restaurants I enjoy: Adobo (but I'm partial since my reception was there), BARcelona, Patachou (actually any location is good), and Yats (any location).

    Matt loves Munkii!!!

  • I would do Naked Tchopstix over Sushi on the Rocks, I have been to both & liked both but I really like the variety Naked Tchopstix has.

Weber Grill downtown is great & I love the RAM downtown.

Recently went to BARcelona downtown & loved it!
