Health Insurance-Self Employed ??'s

My DH and I are considering moving to LA from NYC at the end of this year or early next year. We currently have Health Insurance through my employer as DH is self employed. I'm looking to take some time off and stay home with our son.?

However- we would certainly need health insurance. Anyone have any suggestions on getting health insurance -which companies, plans and price range. I'm looking for a plan that would certainly cover pregnancy as it's something that could happen.
?
We are looking to move to the Santa Monica area if that for any reason makes a difference. ?

Re: Health Insurance-Self Employed ??'s

  • The main health insurance carriers here are: Blue Shield, Blue Cross Anthem, HealthNet, Pacificare, Cigna, United Healthcare.

Your best bet is to find an insurance broker that can guide you through this process.  There is a Nestie on this board, Honeysbride, who is a broker and could probably be very helpful.

  • we've got individual family coverage under kaiser. ?it costs us roughly $650 for me, the hub, and the bean. ?it's an HMO, if that makes a difference to you. ?they were wonderful during my pregnancy and delivery.

  • Hi- I've helped a few other Nesties with insurance "stuff".  I'm an agent for Anthem (Blue Cross) and Blue Shield though I'm more familiar with Anthem plans.  You're welcome to email me sbakerrr at hotmail dot com if you'd like me to check on some rates for you.

    Thanks, Mindy!  :-)
