Tiny ones Tuesday UPDATED - Need to read

We haven't done a kid check in lately. What is going on?

UPDATED at bottom with news from someone. Big Smile

Re: Tiny ones Tuesday UPDATED - Need to read

  • P>The girls are doing good. Amelia is no longer content with sitting by and watching Allison do stuff. What Allison does, Amelia must do. This created some issues on vacation when Allison didn't want to sit in the double stroller. I don't mind Allison being out, but the two of them walking around at the same time is hard. I have to bring treats along to the store to get Amelia to sit in the cart.

Bascially we will have to let Amelia do a few things earlier than Allison did, or not introduce things to Allison until Amelia is ready. One dilema we are facing is Allison's crib. She is more than ready to have it it switched to a toddler bed, however we are afraid Amelia will go on a "crib strike" if her bed is different than her sister's.  Amelia in a toddler bed is NOT going to happen anytime soon. That would be 100% trouble.

Amelia is talking like crazy. We were trying to teach Allison to say "May I be excused" when she is done at the dinner table. A couple of weeks ago, Amelia was done eating so I went to go get her down and she looks at me and say "MAY"      "I"      "BE"    pause  pause....."mumble" . Excused is just too tough of a word.

  • Ugh stupid Nest.  I wrote out a lonnnng reply and now it's gone.  Boo.

  • I'm just adjusting to life with a newborn!  Feedings, changes, sleep, lather, rinse, repeat.  Or something like that.  It's been a blur, and I can't believe how fast the last two weeks have gone.  Each day seems to be getting better and easier for me.  Breastfeeding was difficult for me at first, but we're getting there.  I hope to get more active again soon, but this new job of mine monopolizes a lot of my time!  Hope you guys are well!  xoxo

  • Mere is a toddler. *sob* She runs. She laughs. She knows exactly what she wants and will use any means necessary to get it, including climbing and fit throwing lol. We've gotten her down to one bottle per day (bedtime) and I probably could take that away, but it's the last "baby" thing she does. Her favorite toys right now are puzzles and she's really good at them! It amazes me that she can figure out where the pieces go and get them in the holes at this age. We bought her a potty chair on Saturday and she's gone both pee and poop in it 1-2 times a day! I'm hoping it makes potty training quick and painless :o) She also loooooves to dance. She points at the radio and then we dance around the kitchen. It's cute. She's more and more fun by the day.

  • Update on Katie......big year for her, she turns 13 in a couple of weeks and she will start 8th grade which for us is High School...thanks to declining enrollment and having to condense schools.

She has spent most of the summer with her dad which is the way our custody works out (we have her for the school year) so the few weekends that we've had her have been jammed packed with activity.  She is homesick and has been ready to be home for a few weeks now, she emails and calls all the time.  We've had this arrangement since she was 4 so you'd think it would get easier with time but it just doesn't, she is a 100% mama's girl.

She has emailed me a laundry list of everything we need to shop for in preperation for school, she is so organized and detailed, total opposite of me, it cracks me up.  She plans on trying out for volleyball again which try-outs are the first day of school so that will be interesting.  He schedule is pretty solid with a couple of AP classes, theatre (of course), and the core classes.  She opted out of Latin at the last minute stating that Spanish would be beneficial in any job after college.....she has a point.

That's about it so far...I'm sure I'll have more once she gets back home and sets settled in. Smile

  • Caleb cracks me up more each day. We are teaching him to be polite in terms of interrupting adult conversations; he now says "excuse me" when he wants our attention. Then we say, "Yes, buddy, what do you need?" Usually his response is, "I have a question for you." So we ask what his Q is, and he responds, "You talkin' to Mommy [Daddy]?" and that's it. :)

Yesterday in the car--we drove a friend to her physical therapy and then to CC to get her books--we passed a Burger King with American flags all over the roof. I pointed it out to C, and he hollered, "HOLY COW!!" which nearly made me drive off the road with laughter. :)

  • My kids are doing great.  We are in the middle of their summer extra curricular classes.  Pete and Maria have swim class and they both LOVE IT.  Pete used to cry nonstop but now he is getting into it.  I took them to the Holland Aquatic Center and pete finally went down the water slide (a mini one).  I just watched it. He wouldn't do it for the first hour and a half and finally he just went up there and gave it a try and then he was hooked.  He was also jumping into the water too.  So now he and Maria can be swim buddies.  He's also doing floor hockey.  Maria had a theatre camp at the GR Civic theatre and did great.  It was for five mornings and she learned all of the pieces that go into a play, had to memorize lines, and then perform.  She made a friend, participated, and did well in the play.  I was very proud of her.  She is now having opinions about what clothes she likes to wear which is frustrating me.  All of the cute things I picked out don't get worn anymore and it's just "sloppy" clothes.  She is into those silly bandz too.  I love when she accessorizes :-).  We picked out a new backpack for school and she started crying when we told her we were going to throw out the old raggedy one from kindergarten.  She wanted to save it for her daughter she said.  This is the second time she's said this to me.  Jason ended up taking her to goodwill to donate it.  I fear we might have a hoarder on our hands and she gets that from me :-(.  J is doing well.  He has been upgraded to "twin" status by Pete but not "best friends" status.  Daddy is at "best friends" status with Pete.  The daycare said that J was correcting other kids and making them say please and thank you.  I'm glad that he is able to preach it but still waiting on the practice portion.  He is still in the crib and I just realized that we need to get him out of that so that he won't be doing the big boy bed along with potty training milestones at the same time.  Maybe Mer can teach him :-).  I try to dialog with him about it and read books but he has NO INTEREST WHATSOEVER.  I just want him to be progressing by the time he is 3 - not perfect but close to being trained.  I fear with his demeanor it could be a lot harder than Maria and Pete.

  • K is growing like a weed.  Which is mostly due to the steroids he's on.  I haven't really discussed his hemangiomas on here, but the medicine is working and hopefully after his u/s on the 30th we can start to cut back on the steroids.

He's still sleeping in 2 hour increments at night.  However, Sunday night he slept for 8 1/2 straight hours!  Of course I woke up a few times to check on him.  He proved last night that it was just a fluke.

I swear I don't know where the past 8 weeks have gone.  He discovered his tongue about 2 weeks ago, so watching him play with that is adorable.  And he's recently started smiling back when we smile at him.  I adore that!  Every new thing he does is bittersweet.

    I love being his mommy!

  • Nothing to add but just wanted to say I love reading everyone's stories!!

  • 17 weeks!  I hope the first trimester treated you well.  So excited for you!

Henry has memorized "Where the Wild Things Are" and reads it with me.  I was swarmed by bees on Sunday, and he thinks it's funny to come up behind me and "buzzzzzz."  He's assigning me animals to be every day: "mommy, you a... guinea pig... nice guinea pig."  I've also been a caterpiller and a chicken.  This kid has a great imagination and expresses it well.  He's also refusing naps, but plays in his crib for 2 hours.

Willa and I made tomato sauce today. "Mama, is this helpful?  Can I do ____ for you?"  She's such an earnest, sweet girl.  We've just finished he 2nd book in the Ramona series.  She's really enjoying those.  We put a finch feeder just outside our kitchen window, and it's full of birds all day.  She STILL gets excited  (wide eyed, jumping around, and exclaiming -excited) about every. single. bird we see - even if it's a sparrow hopping on someone's lawn.  I love this about her.

  • Congrats, LAS!  If you need anything, let me know!  I just went through being pregnant too!
