Has anyone purchased EF carpet?
I'm at the point where I really need to replace the carpet in one room. Does anyone have recommendations for carpet that isn't full of chemicals? I'd appreciate any help--stores to look at, brands, what to ask for--anything. I don't even know where to start.
Re: Has anyone purchased EF carpet?
Not sure of the chemical content, but I know Shaw offers recycled carpet.
We just bought Shaw's Martha Stewert carpet from Home Depot ($2.65/sqft). It is 25% recycled product and can be recycled again. I really liked the FLOR carpet tiles, but they were a little too expensive. With HD's $37 whole home instalation this was more affordable. There was not a lot of choice from most of the major brands in terms of colors and textures, so when I found out Shaw's Anso Nylon was used with the new Martha Stewert series it was great.
It is being installed this week so I can't really say how well it holds up, but I think it has to be much better than the $1/sqft stuff the house came with.
We've ordered from FLOR a few times and absolutely love it. I'm not sure how they rate as far as chemicals go, but they use a lot of recycled materials (it varies depending on the carpet you choose) and they will recycle the carpet tiles when you are done with them. They are more expensive than regular carpet, but since they are tiles you can easily replace dirty/worn areas and leave the rest intact which could be cheaper in the long run. You can also clean individual tiles in the sink (depends on the style, of course).
I believe I recently saw an organic wool style, but I could be mistaken.
