Any fellow teacher nesties??

Just wondering when everyone has to go back to work? I start next Monday (the 23rd) but my kiddies don't start till the 30th. I know I shouldn't complain because I should be happy that I have the whole summer off, but i hate this time of year when you know summer is just about over and it went so fast! Yuck!

Re: Any fellow teacher nesties??

  • I'm not a teacher but they started yesterday and the kids go back on the 23rd. I would like to have sympathy for you but since I won't have a summer off until I'm decrepit, I can't bring myself to. Hope you had a great summer and enjoy your last week!
  • I'm still a sub but...

teachers went back today, students start on Thursday.  It surprises me that so many district get so many teacher days before the kids start.  We get two and IMO, it's totally not enough.

Enjoy your last week of summer!

  • only my school gets a week of prep...the rest of my district starts on the 23rd and the kids come right away on the 24th! I teach special ed prek (my whole school is early childhood) so there is a lot of prep getting ready for the kiddies to come! Plus we have a meet the teacher day on the friday before so the kids get to come visit. Thanks!
  • :(  Year #2 that I am not able to go back to teaching.  Sad!

But I worked at a year round homeschool school (yes, even homeschoolers have schools!) so we didn't really "go back" at any particular time.  Though my Wisconsin kids are going back next week already!

  • Oh!  And get this- My Mom's school (the school I went to grades 3-10) just went to a four day week.  Monday-Thursday!  I can't decide if it would be REALLY awesome to always have three day weekends or if it would be too much of a distraction as a student.  My Mom is taking a $60/week pay hit because of this, but she's making it up by continuing her summer job through the fall on weekends.
  • School started yesterday for me with a district wide inservice. Most of the district starts tomorrow, but my school doesn't start until Thursday. I teach in a blended at risk/special ed preschool program, and we have a meet and greet day tomorrow. We started back 10 days earlier than last year so it seemed like the summer flew by.
  • Kids here don't go back until after labor day, so I have a while yet. We start meetings next Wednesday.

  • Sadly I don't have a job to go back to this year :( But kids in MI don't start until after Labor Day (it's a state law!). I'll probably just be subbing this year so if will be about a month before I start working....
