Where to go for Anniversary???

Mine and DH's anniversary is next month and we're trying to come up with something to do that's not too expensive. I was hoping to get some ideas from you ladies. We're probably going to go for a weekend and we're not the type of people who like to just sit around and relax all weekend so there has to be things to do in the area. It doesn't have to necessarily be in NH but would prefer that it doesn't take all day to get there. Maybe 3-4 hours at most. Oh and I'm pregnant so keep that in mind. So let's hear what you've got!!!!!

Re: Where to go for Anniversary???

  • You could do lake winnipesaukee.  DH and I went for the day a couple weeks ago.  We did the MS Washington boat tour and then did lunch in Meredith at Canoe.  And we stopped at the outlets on the way home.  If you're looking to spend the night check out the Naswa resort.  We spent a night there (mid week) and it was $89 a night and a really nice place.  Typical kitchy Lake decor but the restaurant was good and they had a great lakeside bar/bar food type restaurant.

    have fun!

  • I second Lake Winni! :) There is so much to do around there. If you did stay at the Naswa, the drive in movie theater is only a minute away. They have a few arcades at Weirs Beach (my FH and I love that stuff... we are kids at heart!). Or maybe you could try heading up to Old Orchard Beach or York Maine. I haven't been in forever though so I don't really remember whats around. You could also google spas, inns and B&B's around the areas you are looking for. They may have package stays that include your room, a romantic dinner and extras like massages if they offer! Your anniversary is right after Labor day, do you plan on going the weekend after?

P.S. I checked out your planning bio (I am planning a wedding for next fall) and was wondering where you got married? I like the pictures and it's kind of what I have been looking for!

  • The lakes region is nice, but there's also Sunapee.  DH and I went there a couple of summers ago and it was nice.  We stayed at a bed and breakfast and there is Mt. Sunappee, Lake Sunapee, and The Fells which is a botanical garden.  And you might find Sunapee to be a bit cheaper than the Lakes Region.
  • I love Winni and the area around there. If you're into shopping and hiking, North Conway area is great too. Portsmouth is also nice for strolling and within a short drive to beaches that are fun to walk even in the off season, shopping and other fun things to find.

  • I'm gonna second the Portsmouth recommendation. Lots of great restaurants, walk around Strawberry Banke and maybe head the beaches in Rye.
  • Portsmouth is my choice too.. we always have a great time when we go there. :)

  • Thanks for all of the ideas! We'll definitely have to look into the places mentioned. We probably plan to go the weekend of the 18th. Still have to decide where though and not much time left lol.

jmob1923- We got married at Stonewall Farm in Keene, NH. The facility is beautiful but kind of small. They say they can hold up to 120 people but I think that's pushing it. We probably had around 100 and it seemed a little crowded until some of the guests started to leave and we could take away some of the tables. Definitely worth looking into though because it really is beautiful.
