*Bethie!*

I saw last week on FB you mentioned Dave Ramsey. Obviously we need to look at financial matters more than ever at this point so it's one less thing to really stress over. We're not struggling, but definitely have room for improvement!

We tried looking for his books at the library this weekend, the library didn't have them, but I saw there were a few different ones. I was just wondering what you would recommend to start learning from him. Did you read a book of his? Listen to his show (not sure when I could catch it)? We'll probably hit up a bookstore this weekend to see if they have his books. Our biggest obstacle for big changes like these seem to be where to start, and sorting it out. In this situation, time is ticking against us. Any advice you can give would be great! TIA!

Re: *Bethie!*

  • good for you! finances are an area of struggle for so many, and it's great that you and don are looking at making a change before baby comes!

i would definitely recommend his book "the total money makeover"... his whole plan is the 7 baby steps... taking a big thing and breaking it up into smaller, more manageable pieces. also, before you do that, check out his website. i like his approach a little more than a few others i've checked out. he's very aggressive about getting rid of debt, and he says that the only debt he approves of is a home mortgage.

we're not following his plan 100% right now because we're wanting to pad our e-fund considerably more than he recommends so that we'll be ok in case i don't get hired right after i'm done with school, but check out the baby steps and see what works for you.. :)

happy to help. let me know if you have other questions or anything! :)
