Sorry ladies, I'm invading your board. DH and I are looking for a quick getaway from NY. We love camping so we're considering the KOA in Jonestown. There are a few things listed on their site as far as things to do in the area, but I was wondering if any of you had any insight.
Is Jonestown worth visiting? TIA
)
ETA: is this even the right PA board to be asking on?
Re: Anyone from Jonestown?
I live in Jonestown and that campground is always packed and I honestly don?t understand it. I would go to the twin grove campground in Pine Grove before I would go to the KOA in Jonestown. I would also suggest Mount Gretna over the Jonestown Campground.
I guess I should ask what you are looking to do. If you truly just want to camp and not do too much else then Jonestown would be okay but it isn't on the top of my list for campgrounds. There are some local hikes you could do (but would have to drive to them) and there is also the "rails to trail" path that is great for bike rides. There is a KOA in Lickdale (5 minutes away) that I think offers van shuttles and kayaks if you want to kayak.
I'm in lover hudson valley, so right outside the city. We'd rather not go more than 3.5-4 hrs. We're not looking for much. mostly just relaxing, with maybe a day trip or two. But we are taking our 8 month old, and our puppy so we need a campground or B&B that allows dogs. some KOA's do, but aparently Jonestown doesn't allow them in their rented cabins.
Feel free to give me all your ideas!
Thanks for your help ladies!!

The twin groves campground I posted above is only 10 minutes from the Jonestown campground and allows dogs. They just had a doggy fair last weekend. They also have a nice pool area that you could relax at with the baby. They have cabins and permanent tents to rent as well.
Mount Gretna is a nice area with some nice hiking and biking trails. They have an old ice cream shop that is great, a lake and this weekend is the arts festival.
Nearby Mount Gretna is Cornwall which is a cute little town and a 5 minute drive to Mount Gretna, the only place I could find to stay was the Cornwall Inn.
There is also Manheim which is about 15 minutes from Mount Gretna and has Pinch Ponds campground. Manheim is near the PA Renassaince fair.
Are you interested in the Hershey attractions? The Hershey Conewago campground is probably about 10-15 minutes from Mount Gretna. You could also then stop by and visit Hershey Chocolate World which has free admission.
Sold haha! I'll go anywhere for chocolate!
) Thanks so much for your help. these all sound like fantastic ideas.
