We have ants in the house everyday and after 3 "war on ants" days I am going insane. It can be anywhere from a few in the house a day to over 20. They always congregate around the dogs food dish and the front door. Does anybody have anything they use for keeping ants out of the house?
Re: Ants!
I get the really teeny tiny ants and I use Ortho Home Defense Max in the spray bottle. I spray the threshold at the front and back doors and then also outside where the door meets the stoop. It takes care of the problem.
Apparently it isn't toxic to animals once it's dry. So my cat goes upstairs for a few hours until it dries completely. There's no smell, so once he's allowed back downstairs he doesn't notice anything was sprayed (therefore he doesn't mess with it).
It's supposed to work for a year, but I re-apply outside once every couple months and inside about twice a year.

I used Ortho Home Defense- and it worked in the areas in which I sprayed it...but then I noticed ants in other places where they had never been before. I eventually bought Raid ant buttons (like those little roach motels) and that worked GREAT! At first I had like 50 ants come out of hiding and I was freaking out...but I guess they took the bait back to their little ant headquarters and killed the colony. It said that it was supposed to kill the colony and queen ants.
I liked this option because it was not something the DH and I would be inhaling from a spray.
I do the exact same thing! I spray all the door thresholds and even the windowsills. It keeps those pesky guys out and lasts a really long time. I can always tell when its time to spray again when I notice a few lingering around the dog food bin. AND it helps keep spiders and other yucky insects out!
