I don't know what's wrong with the water in my area, but after less than 3 days of being cleaned, my toilets SMELL and get a pink rim in them (minerals in water??). Anyway, I thought of the tablets my mom used to drop in her toilets when I was younger. Was wondering if any of you have seen any green products of the like? If not, any suggestions of things I can do? It's honestly embarrassing if someone were to stop over without knowing and they have to use my bathrooms! Thanks!
Re: Toilet Bowl Tablets?
I think those tablets were for people who have septic systems. They were intended to help with the processing of the waste in the tank. Do you have a septic system or public sewer? What is the smell (sewage, mildew)?
You might want to find the root of the problem before you waste money on things to cover it. Try to pin point where the smell comes from... do you have grout around your toilet that could be saturated in something un-savory? Is there stuff growing under the rim of the toilet? Try draining the water and scrubbing it down with bleach (I mean heavy duty scrub, down the hole, under the rim etc). Flush that down and then add some more bleach to the clean water. Let it sit overnight and flush in the morning. See if the smell comes back. It might be a problem with the pipes that needs to be addressed by a plumber or the sewer authority (if it's outside) in your area.
Oh, and the pink is excess calcium. You probably have hard water. But hard water shouldn't smell.

I think she might be talking about the in the tank drop-ins that bleach with every flush, rather than something like Rid-x that is bacteria for your septic system.
Like 2000 Flushes Blue or Clorox Automatic Toilet Bowl Cleaner - something to keep it fresh between cleanings.
I don't know of any green product for this.
