Amye

How long did you do yoga when you were PG with Alyssa?  I just got the ok to start prenatal yoga and wanted to get an idea for how far into the pregnancy I can do it, before I call.  Thanks!

Re: Amye

  • *butting in* I am taking prenatal yoga through SNHMC right now and I loooooove it.  I would highly recommend a prenatal class rather than just going to a regular yoga class.  It's more customized for pregnancy and offers a lot of insight into labor techniques etc.  From what I have heard, you can take it right up until delivery.  Good luck!

  • Hi Kristin!!  How are you??

Well, I was doing yoga 2-3 times a week for 18 months before I got pregnant, so I knew what to do to modify for myself and I also knew what I wasn't comfortable doing ... and so I did regular yoga until November (that being said, I did not continue at my regular studio because those classes are like Power Yoga withut the heat but I went to a Hollis studio and took a gentler class till November) I'm not sure what your experience is w/ yoga so it's hard to say how long you should do it before getting started in pre-natal yoga.  Does your teacher know you're pregnant?  That can be a huge help.  I say go for prenatal yoga when you're ready and no longer feel comfortable doing your regular yoga ... and Hillary is another wonderful yoga resource!!

I hope you're feeling well, Kristin!!!  When is your big u/s or are you choosing not to find out the gender of your little baby?

Edit:  When I say I don't know what your experience is w/ yoga, I just mean that I don't know how long you've been practicing or what your class is like ... so it's hard to say how long you should continue there ... I hope that came out right!!  Some people go straight for pre-natal yoga, some never leave regular yoga ... it's your personal comfort level that determines it.  I couldn't bend over anymore and was doing less and less throughout class ... that's how I knew I needed to start prenatal yoga.
