Good eats near Como Zoo?

Hi all!

Some blog friends and I are getting together at Como Zoo on Sunday and we were thinking of maybe doing a late lunch/early dinner afterward.  And suggestion for a good place to eat nearby?

Re: Good eats near Como Zoo?

  • I LOVE Nelson's Cheese Factory!  They have really good sandwhiches and salads.  We usually pick up the sandwhiches and then go sit in Como Park to eat.

If you want a nicer sit down place, the Chianti Grill in Roseville is close and has great food and atmosphere.

  • There is a Key's Cafe, Snuffy's Malt Shop and House on Wong right on Larpenteur and Lexington.

  • Mavericks is really yummy. Think Arbys, only 1,000,000 times better. Real beef made fresh daily, real mashed potatoes.

My favoriate is House of Wong.  Best Chinese food EVER. ANYWHERE.

  • for some reallllllly fabulous pizza, there is John's Pizza Cafe.  Its east of the zoo at the 3-way intersection of Dale/Como/Front.  Seriously.Fabulous.Pizza.  And it not the run-of-the-mill pizza either.  My faves are the the California Dreamer and Famer's Fantasy.

  • I love the food at Java Train. It's just a couple of blocks from the zoo off of Midway.

  • Ditto Nelson's for icecream and sandwiches - but you have to eat elsewhere.  Snuffy's for a burger, House of Wong for Chinese (enough for 2 meals, easily!), Old Chicago is always good, there is a Damico behind Har Mar across from Target now too.  If you go down Hamline for a bit, there is Aurelio's pizza which is amazing as well.  GL!
  • I know that I'm weighing in on this too late, but I've always liked the food at Gabes on the Park on Lexington (I think!) and Energy Park Drive.  It's bar food, but I've always thought it was good :)
