Was I dumb?

I've been pulling up the crab grass in my front yard. I now have some beautiful bare spots. Should I have waited to pull the crab grass until it is cool enough to reseed? It is still in the 90s every day here

Re: Was I dumb?

  • Meh, so it's bare in spots for a while longer. You'll reseed eventually, right?

    Don't drink the water.

  • Nope. I did the same thing.

I also mixed some soil in a bucket (not the whole bucket) and mixed it with Scott's seed. When I pull the crab grass and get a bare spot, I'll use my trovel and scoop little bit of the mix onto the bare spot. I've been doing it for years and it works great!

That's not too hot to reseed. Just keep it moist: water daily and cover with wheat straw (or similar).

  • I think it's better to pull it now & have bare spots. Otherwise the crab grass will continue to spread & you'll have even bigger bare spots in the fall.
