Alternatives to plastic bags with the litterbox?

We use plastic grocery bags when we clean the litter box.  Are there more eco-friendly alternatives?

I use an old litter tub (the giant ones with the metal handle) and then empty that once a week into the regular garbage (or whenever it is full).  I still line the container with a grocery store bag but at least it reuses them.

I do the litterbox when my kitchen trash can is almost full, carry the can upstairs to the box, and empty the litterbox into the trash can then take it to the curb.  That way we're not using any extra bags.

That's what we do, then give the box a scrub, dry it and refill it with litter.  When we scoop the box in between cleanings, we flush it down the toilet (ok to do with our city's water system).
