Droid, iPhone, or Blackberry???
I am getting a new phone. I am a Mac person but I have heard a lot of negative things about glitches with the iPhone. Which would you go with?
Re: Droid, iPhone, or Blackberry???
When we switched to ATT last year, I chose a Blackberry Curve 8900 over the iPhone. After I had to get my 5th replacement, I gave up on it completely. I called and complained and they gave me an early upgrade to the new iPhone 4.
I really like it alot and haven't really had any issues with it. I say go iPhone.

Droid.
iPhone only allows you to run one app at a time, so you have to quit whatever you're doing to switch to something else. Android allows you to run as many apps as you want at the same time, so you never have to quit an app if you don't want to.
I say Droid. Go have a salesperson show you what they can do, and then go see what an iPhone can do. The iPhone will clearly lose.
That isn't exactly correct. Especially with the iPhone 4. It's called backgrounding and the iPhone IS capable of it.

Also, the iPhone is MUCH more user friendly. I know 3 or 4 people who got the Droid and returned it because they couldn't figure it out. They said it was too complicated.
But I also know a few people who loves theirs. I've never even played with one.

This.
I have the 4 and it CAN do multiple things.

and this.
I have a co worker who has a droid and he let me play with it. Damned if I could figure it out.
We also did a side by side comparison of video (the exact same one) the quality of the iphone 4 far surpassed the droid.

This is the first I've heard of that, I'll have to check out the 4.
I disagree on the "user friendly" part. I think the only reason people think iPhones are more user friendly is because the Mac OS does not allow users to modify the way anything is set up. Android OS will allow you to modify anything you want. Other than the "dummy safety" features that Mac OS has, I can't see a benefit to it over Android OS.
From that standpoint, yes you have to figure out how to modify what you want and you do have to spend time exploring how the device operates, but that's similar to learning any new operating system, or learning something new in general. Just because it "seems" easier to use at first does not mean it will end up giving you a better user experience in the end.
Easier to learn doesn't equal better user experience - think about how different Windows 7 is than Windows XP. Everything is a bit different, but Windows 7 typically gives a better user experience.
Also - Android OS is something not many people have experience with it. It is not Windows. So it does take some learning.
More benefits to Android OS that SO and I just thought of:
- Capable of Desktop and widgets, user able to customize all (Mac OS only allows you to view the list of installed apps)
- Does not require any type of software to connect to a computer
- Automatic updating enabled
- Gmote software allows the device to act as a remote control for a computer
- Remote desktop software allows the device to remote into a computer from afar
- Applications are allowed to have the device do whatever they want - ie Bump app allows two Android OS users "bump" their hands together while holding the phones in order to sync their music/movie/tv/kindle collections. There are compass apps, radar apps, even an app that directs the phone to turn on the camera flash LED to act as a flashlight.
I'd like to see iPhone beat the flashlight
Uhh, iPhone does almost all of these things too....
yup.
iphone 4 has a compass built in and there are apps for the rest of the things mentioned (free apps).

Honestly, you need to just get whichever phone you think you're going to be most comfortable using. Go into the store and play around with each and decide.
People who are iPhone users are diehard and cann't be swayed any other way. Same goes for those who use and love the Droid. There are pluses and minuses to both - you just have to get what's going to be best for you, your lifestyle and what you are looking to get out of the phone.
FWIW, DH and I plan to get Droids soon.
It makes me laugh when people say the Droid or the iPhone FAR surpasses one or the other especially with the newer Droids and the iPhone 4. I've played w/ both and I have an iTouch. I think it's honestly just personal preference. They both have pros and cons.
Go play with them both and see what you're more comfortable with. I wanted a larger screen and AT&T has shiitty service in our area so that's why I went with the X.
But, the iPhone cannot use Flash, so I don't know how that makes a difference. Google got the Flash so Android OS can use it.
Because it cant' use flash, that means no web videos (like Youtube). You can browse to the site, but you can't watch the videos. What's the point of that?
You said "almost", but I want "all". If I want to change the speed at which my phone's processor operates, I should be able to do so. I should be able to make it do anything I want. Can't do that with the iPhone. Yes you can install applications, but you cannot modify the operating system. And I want full control of that OS.
Another point is, iPhone 4 is the only iPhone that comes anywhere near what the original Android OS could do. Android is 2 versions past that now, and Apple is just catching up to them. Hardware-wise, the iPhone doesn't really compare.
Also, do you really want to have iTunes installed every time you want to connect your phone to your computer? I don't, because iTunes wastes a ton of system resources and I don't have the patience to deal with it. I can plug my Droid into my computer, go into My Computer and see it as an external device. I can push data to the SD card, or pull data from the SD card. I don't need an application to do it for me.
My point is, Apple OS is an inferior operating system - like pp's on this forum have said, they've upgraded versions on their iPhones and now they have bricks because the upgrades don't run correctly with the applications installed etc etc etc. iPhones are wrought with problems. When my OS upgraded from Android 2.1 to Android 2.2, it took one reboot and the phone ran almost twice as fast, and I have over 80 apps installed.
I still say go with Android OS, and the Droid 2 model specifically (best hardware + OS combination), but being someone who does IT support full time, I may not know what I'm talking about. Trust a salesperson, or trust someone who deals with these problems 40+ hours/week in a large corporate environment. Seriously. I've seen iPhones break in ways you've never imagined.
also not true. I watch videos on my phone all the time, and youtube come built in to the phone. The only time I run into an issue is when I am shopping online and a lot of sites have flash, so just a default pic shows up versus the fancy videos. But I can just go to my "shopstyle" app if I want to see something in more detail....

This is exactly my question, except for the IPhone part, since i don't have AT&T. I'm due for an upgrade next year and I've been trying to decide on a Droid or Blackberry. My ex-bf has a Droid(he got it when we were together) and I thought it was so cool. Blackberry's seem so standard and more for business-oriented people. I'm a big internet, email, apps girl, and I'm not sure if Blackberry has as many awesome apps as the Droid. I do know that most apps made available are available to all three. I'm not sure what phones will be out by then, but I'm already trying to get in mind which OS I want, and that will pretty much dictate the type of phone I get.
Last year when my mom & I upgraded the Droid wasn't out yet and Blackberry's were out of the budget. However, now since Verizon wants to charge everyone who has a 3G-Multi Media phone or Smartphone $30 for a data plan, I figure I might as well get the most suped up phone they have. I take it I'll keep researching and hopefully by next year they will have some cool phones out and it will be easy to decide.
Decisions....decisions....

Um, what? Have you done NO research on the iPhone? It does use Flash, and I watch videos on it all the time. YouTube comes as a built in app on the iPhone.
