Need surprise party ideas.

My H will be turning 40 next spring and I would like to do something different for his party and was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

I already did a PJ/breakfast party. I want something creative.

TIA

Re: Need surprise party ideas.

  • Do you want ideas on having it at your house w/ a different theme?  Or are you looking for different ideas for public venues?

  • Different themes within my home, or private venue.
  • What is he interested in?  For DH's 30th, I had a football themed party & the foods were all football/tailgate themed...
  • Poker, brewing beer..

In that case, I'd do a beer tasting party!  :-)  Are you familiar w/ Joleen's blog?  She is also a Nestie!   Here is an event that she hosted to give you some inspiration:

Then a beer tasting would be a lot of fun!  DH & I have been hosting them for a few years now.  We have everyone bring a 6-pack of beer they've never had before & we set out glasses for everyone to try samples.  We have a lot of basic snacks/food like homemade pretzels, cheese & crackers, etc.  We give away prizes for beer from farthest away, beer with craziest name, & the best beer by consensus.  We also set out 6-packs for people to take beer home with them.

Here are a couple photos of the parties:

  • That is an awesome idea...thank you!
  • I did a pirate themed party for DH this year.  Our DS loves the book Dora and the Piggy Pirates somehow created an image of a pirate party for his dad.  Not being willing to disappoint DS I hosted a surprise party for DH and our friends.  In short it was fabulous!

It was at our home on a Friday night.  Foods were hearty appetizers for an hour then roasted chickens and veggies. Pirate beer in pirate mugs as well as skull goblets for the wine.  I ordered a cake in the shape of a pirate ship that turned out awesome. (took an in person visit to convince them it was for a 38yo not an 8yo) It was easy to find   Oriental Trading had cheap yet surprisingly nice costume items- provided for all.  Our house was covered in 50yds of shredded muslin hanging from the ceiling.  6mo later the little kids in our group still ask about the next pirate party.  DH loved every minute especially the cake.

Several years ago I hosted a retro bowling party for DH. We went to a duckpin alley and had costume shirts made.
