I need a good reputable mechanic to do a very simple repair for me. I already have the part, BF tried to fix it but he doesn't have the necessary tool. I went to my usual Firestone today to see if they would install it for me, and not only would they not install it, they charged $218 for a part that I paid $60 for. Their excuses for charging that much were pathetic.
Re: Mechanic recs?
I'll PM you my guy, but we feel like he's gotten more expensive over the years since he offers such good service. Damn Catch-22.
I have no idea how much he costs lately - MIL & SFIL have been using him and complaining his prices have gone up, so take that for what its worth. Can't hurt to call and ask.

Yeah, I just called him, and he wants $90, which I feel is not too bad, but I also wanted him to replace my drive belts, which I already have, and he wants another $90 for that. That seems pretty steep to me, considering how quick that is to do. I'll think about it.
I've just called them, they will do it for $65. Sold! Thanks.
ha, see? The ILs ain't crazy! He does excellent work, but they know they could take their cars elsewhere for less.
