Advice/Help

So lately I've been super exhausted all the time. For example, yesterday I got off work early since I have to work this weekend and I sat my butt on the couch from 2:00pm until I went to bed. There were so many things I needed to do but just couldn't find the energy to just get up and do them. I've been like this for at least a month. I come home, make supper, eat, and sit and watch tv until we go to bed.

I know a HUGE part of it is that I despise my job. Like I HATE being here everyday to the point that it is so emotionally and physically exhuasting. I am currently looking for a new job which also adds stress and doesn't help the situation. I also don't work out right now which I know will help so I need to get on that even if it's just doing something like 30DS 3 times a week.

What do you guys do to keep your energy level up or to get yourself motivated to do the things you need to get done? Do you have any suggestions or advice to help get me out of my slump?

Re: Advice/Help

  • Lisa, I had a similar problem during the school year (I'm a teacher) because I had difficulty with coworkers.  I wish there was an easy fix, but some of the things I do when I'm feeling lazy/down to go for a walk or do a quick workout-something fun.  I recently got the game Just Dance for wii and it is silly and fun, gets me moving so that when I finish I have a little more energy.  You could also call a friend to join you for some window shopping or something...I love to shop!  Also, during those times I don't let myself turn on the tv because I'll really veg out and won't be able to stop.

    HTH!! :)

  • I totally understand what you are going through... sometimes it is hard to find the motivation...

What helps me is to set goals for each day of things I want to accomplish... I essentially use laziness as my rewards (I have a 6 month old, time to myself is few and far between!)...

For example, my goals for today are:

    1. Make 2 doctors appointments

    2. Empty dishwasher

    3. Give dogs a bath

    4. Put away Ronan's laundry

    5. Gym/workout

Basically, I don't sit down at home until I get my stuff done... Once it is done then I can relax... I find it MUCH MUCH harder to get motivated again after I have relaxed a bit... I just launch right into what I need to be doing when I get home... Like today, I will make my appointments at work or in the car on my way home,I will get home Take Ronan upstairs, let him play in his bedroom while I put away the laundry, go downstairs get dinner started, while that is cooking put the dishes away... Eat dinner, workout (depends on what time DH is getting home on the order of this one!) then give the dogs a bath... not to mention I have to give Ronan a bath and get him down for bed too... BUT, I should be able to get it all done and still have a couple of hours to myself before I go to bed at 11ish...

If you keep the momentum going when you get home from work it is MUCH easier to get stuff done...  :-)

  • I try to eat well as I've heard eating healthy or limiting foods like sugar keeps your energy level down. And like you said, being active helps get me moving, and I like Bridget's idea of not sitting down until everything is done.
  • I was like that too, last year.  I know some of it was due to work and being stressed/run into the ground, but I had a DR appointment and got my blood tested.  It turned out I was severely anemic (low iron) and it was making me very tired with zero energy.

I noticed a huge difference once I started taking supplements and eating better.  I have no idea if that has any relation to your situation, but just giving my 2 cents.  HTH

Ditto, though I find myself not really having much to do these days. But on the days that I have stuff to accomplish it's so much easier for me to get it done if I start right away.

Try changing into your workout clothes immediately when you get home from work. You'll be more motivated to actually workout.

  • Thanks ladies! I think doing a to-do list for everyday will really help. My biggest problem would be that I would cook and eat on our couch and watch tv then I would never get up. We just need to start eating at the table so I won't have a choice!

  • There's a lot of really good advice here!!! I would like to add, give yourself a free day! Like on monday you do what you want! Or something like that, maybe just work out but no cleaning nothing! Sometimes you just need it!!Great advice girls I love it!

I was just going to say that! :) In addition to all the great advice you've been given on this board, consider a trip to the doctors office. Anemia, thyroid hormone imbalances, and certain chronic diseases can play a huge role in feeling run down and unmotivated. It's always a good idea to get those things checked out. :)
  • I have very much enjoyed all the responses myself. Some great advice ladies. =)

Also if I need to "wake" myself up, I get a shower. Odd I know, but it gets me moving again. I feel fresh, awake, and ready to go, but this only works if showers wake you up instead of putting you to sleep.
