My husband is Andrew, and so is his father, grandfather, and great grandfather. None of them are Juniors, the Italians tend not to do that.
I'm not the biggest fan of the name Andrew (i really don't like Andy) and my DH is Drew. We agreed on the name Anthony Joseph or so I thought.
At my shower this weekend, his whole family was asking why aren't you going to name him Andrew after his father (it sounds so much better with the Staten Island accents!). Now Drew is obsessed with naming the baby after himself and I think I may have agreed!
So we no longer have an Anthony, he's going to be Andrew Joseph.
Good thing I didn't have anything made with his name on it!
Re: I think we renamed our baby
I love the name Andrew! I think that's going to be so cool. I love traditions like that!
We were just talking last night about Anthony if we have a boy, b/c it's DH's middle name - and nice and Italian. He doesn't want the baby named after his first name b/c he's spent his whole life with people singing "Hey Jude" to him and hates it. So we were talking about this being a way to include his name.
Thank goodness you didn't have his name all over things That's great that you both agree on Andrew now!!!
I like Andrew Joseph, it has a nice flow to it! I think you made a good choice!
Everybody in DHs family was disappointed that we didn't continue their tradition of making the dad's first name into the first born son's middle name. Jakob John just would not have sounded right and I really didn't want him listening to people singing a nursery rhyme at him his whole life (though some people still do it anyway). We were both really wanted Jakob for his first name.
There's something to be said for tradition, though, and we started our own. Both Jakob and Caroline have my maiden name as their middle. My dad had all girls, and is an only child himself so doing this keeps our branch of his last name alive for another generation - and I think it would be nice if the two of them continue that with their kids someday. We will see, though!
