Please share your dinner party menu

We're hosting dinner tomorrow for three couples which we confirmed today! I'm going grocery shopping later but not sure what we should serve.

I'm interested in what other's have served? Please help

TIA

Re: Please share your dinner party menu

  • This summer I've tried to keep the meals simple and out of the kitchen because of the heat.

My favorite to serve has been marinated chicken breasts on the grill, with seasoned cous cous, and a salad made with mixed greens, mini mozzarella balls, grape or cherry tomatoes, and creamy balsamic dressing (Ken's makes a really good one).

I might also get a loaf of bread and serve it with olive oil, salt and cracked pepper.

For dessert you could do fruit skewers and chocolate dipping sauce, sliced green apples with skor dip, or strawberry shortcake (I usually just buy an angel's food cake, slice up some strawberries and top with some whipped cream).

  • We just had a couple over for dinner and I made braised short ribs over mashed potatoes, and a nice green salad.  For dessert, I took fresh peaches, sauteed them on the stove with some butter and brown sugar, and served them over vanilla bean ice cream.  The short ribs, I browned the night before and put them in the crockpot about 10:30 pm.  They cooked over night so I was able to hang out with my guests without all the cooking.  That was nice for once.

  • We just had friends over the other night and we had grilled sirloin pork chops that had been marinated in a hawaiian marinade, grilled pineapple, brown rice pilaf, and a green salad with toasted almonds and sliced peaches with Lighthouse pear and gorgonzola vinaigrette.  For dessert, we had Martha Stewart's 4th of July shortcake (you can search shortcake on her website and it is the one that looks like an assembled cake, but I make individual shortcakes out of the dough instead of making two large rounds like the recipe says).  You make the dough the night before and refrigerate it overnight, and then you just have to roll it out and bake it the day of.
