WWYD - sort of TMI

So I started spotting, which I've never done (minus one day in May). That was the first time this has ever happened. Today, I'm doing it again. I feel fine, everything seems fine, minus this. I also started back on BCPs in January after being off of it for several months. Before that I was on the ring for about 3 years. My BP was also pretty screwy with the recent Scotland trip, which was now a month ago.

So I'm guessing that I probably need to call the doc. Should I call my ob-gyn or regular doc? I was hoping my regular doc only b/c my ob-gyn is 45 minutes away. Or wait and see if it stops? I should start next week.

Re: WWYD - sort of TMI

  • Hmmm.  I would probably put a call into my ob-gyn to see what they say.  I probably wouldn't be too worried about it since everything else seems fine, but it is always good to check just in case.  If they want you to come in, I'd ask what they would be checking for.  That way if it is something your regular doctor can do, then you could just make the appointment with him/her.
  • I've had that problem before, and the BCP we're either no longer working right or just weren't right for me (I as still spotting after the 2 month "your body getting use to them" stage).  You might just need to make a call and have them send you a new brand to your pharmacy.  Sometimes the pills are funny.. I had to go through 3 different brands once to find the right one.

I've also had this happen when I've taken my pill late (like 5 hrs or so late), especially when it's the week before my period. It lasted for a couple days.

I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen for a couple years and suddenly started having lots of spotting/breakthrough bleeding.  It was because my birth control had become in effective.

  • Thanks, Ladies! I called and she thinks it's due to the Scotland trip and the BC being generic. If it happens again next month then we'll figure something else out.

Hopefully, it's working normal. I got dizzy last week and had to go home. Some people thought I was pregnant. :)

  • Do you take the pills the same time every day?
  • Yes, but after we already got there. I usually take my pill around 9 pm, but that's when we were boarding so I completely forget to take it until the next day around 2 pm Scotland time (9 am our time). My normal time would have been 1 am Scotland time, but I took it when I first woke up each morning (generally around 7 am) instead. Then on the way back, the same thing happened with my schedule. Looking back, I should have set my alarm for 1am to pop the pill.

I'm hoping the doc is right. I might be joining the bump more often. :)

  • Oh yeah, that could def. do it. Hope you get back to normal next month!
