Raleigh-area 5Ks

Where do you find out about 5ks in the Raleigh area? Currently, I use Active.com and Young and Associates. Any other places I should check?

Re: Raleigh-area 5Ks

  • I'm going to be honest, I was just about to post asking what 5k's people in Raleigh were running.   I think I'm going to be able to run my first one this Fall!  So excited!  I'm interested to see what races are available.
  • Right now, I'm looking at doing the Triangle Run/Walk for Autism on October 9. And I'll probably either do the Jingle Bell Run or the Reindeer Romp this December.
  • I just found the Raleigh Monster Dash 10 on Oct 31st!  I want to do a "fun" race so I can be somewhat distracted through my run.

Although my running coach friend thinks I should be able to do one at the end of Sept Indifferent  Maybe I should sign up for one so I have something to work towards.

  • I think there is a website runnc.com or .org that I reference sometimes.

I did the Monster Dash last year Elissa. It was really fun.

  • I think the NC Roadrunners website usually has a race calender. Though I admit I usually just hear of them through the grapevine. I did the Autism run last year and it was pretty good.  It starts at Moore Square and goes out of the city and you turn around somewhere past the Krispy Creme and come back.  I've also done the Freisen 5K which is coming up on 9/12. That one you go around the RBC center, then out to Blue Ridge, then back. I've also heard of others doing the Women's Distance Festival 5K on 9/25, but never done it myself.
  • I did the Women's Distance last year. You run around the Mordecai neighborhood and there is one big hill (not so much steep, but it seems like a mile long).

Would this one be a bad 5k for a beginner like me?  I'm not able to run the entire thing.  I'll probably stick to my running/walking intervals just so I can complete the 5k.  Maybe by December I will be able to run an entire 5k.

  • I wouldn't think so. It was actually a really pretty run (I liked looking at the houses), but that hill was long. It was during the last mile too. If you're going to run/walk then you should be fine. Just take you time, you may surprise yourself.

It was funny b/c a friend and I were running together. I was waiting for her to say "ok, let's walk" and she was waiting on me. Neither one of us ever said anything until we were done, but we were glad that we didn't walk.

  • Ok I'll keep this one in mind if I want to do one before the Halloween one.  I'm so excited to be on my way to my first 5k!!!
  • Check out: runningintheusa.com  They have a good listing of races of all distances.  I'd also recommend Running Free with K-Wayne in November.  I ran it last year and it's on the ATT so cushioned and flat with the exception of one small uphill on the way back (it's an out and back).

  • I'm doing the Hope's Hope 5K on 9/25... It's on the American Tobacco Trail.  DH's aunt is one of the founders of the charity so we're pretty much required :)  Should be fun though!
