Restaurant recs near Shelter Island???

Hello, ladies.  I need a restaurant in SD next weekend. Friday night, about 5-6 people, family including Grandma.

We are staying at Humphreys for a wedding so something not too far away.  Any kind of food, neighborhood gems welcome. We don't need a bar scene or something uber-trendy. Grandma's hearing is a bit off so something not too loud.

Money no object although we could go cheap or expensive if it is good!

We have reservations at Humphrey's already.

Has anyone been to La Playa Bistro?  And is Old Town crappy at night or might El Agave be a decent bet?

  • Miguel's the food is good

  • For Mexican, Miguel's is the best place and it is right there as you leave Shelter Island. For Italian, Pizza Nova has unique dishes and great views. For American Hamburgers go to Hodad's (in Ocean Beach) about 5-10 mins. away... it is noisy and a long wait to get in, but good food. Another great place is Phil's BBQ it is super good, but a little noisy.

Hope this helps and have a great weekend!

  • I know this is a little late, but here are a few of our favorites (we live in Shelter Island):

1)Old Venice Italian Restaraunt- It's kind of snazzy at night, but moderate prices.

    2) Miguels like everyone says. It has great food and atmosphere for a family. Plates are about 10-15 per person and the chips/white sauce it awesome!

    3) C-Level on Harbor Island, about a 3 minute drive, have an amazing view of the city. This is an outdoor venue (have heating lamps if old, but it's San Diego), attached to an indoor "fine dining" place. But C-Level has really good food, moderate priced, but the view is what makes it special.

    4) For fish/california cuisine, I'd recommend either Anthony's Fish Restaraunt or the Fish House both on North Harbor Drive, on the way to downtown.

Have fun in Shelter Island :) If you get a chance for lunch go to Con Pane Rustic Breads...amazing sandwiches, breads, and cinnamon rolls!
