wedding shower-please help me decide what to make

I am going to be making a few things for a wedding shower coming up in a couple months.  It is an clean slate for the menu so far.  Please help me decide (most of the recipes I found on various Nesties' blogs, my apologies for not remembering who belongs to which recipe) .  I have never made any of the recipes before, but I think I can manage them all.  Here is what I am considering (please help me pick 2 or 3):

Buffalo Chicken Dip

Shrimp Stuffed mushroms

Stuffed Mushrooms

Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake Cupcakes

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip

Lemon Cheesecake Cheese Ball

Re: wedding shower-please help me decide what to make

  • Are you the only person making food?

If not, I would pick one of the apps and one of the desserts as your contribution.

I would say one of the stuffed mushrooms, and the Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake Cupcakes since indiviudally portioned things are easiest for people needing to go through a buffet line.

  • What else will be there for food?  And will there be additional desserts and/or cake?  That will help determine what you should pick from that list!
  • I will not be the only one providing the food.  I am not sure what else in particular will be served, but I am pretty sure there will be a cake.  It is a very casual afternoon shower.
  • I would stay away from desserts then.  The buffalo chicken dip & shrimp stuffed mushrooms will be good.
  • Although I really do love the buffalo chicken dip, I hate the idea of it for a wedding shower.  It seems so masculine and casual, for some reason I just don't think it fits the occasion.  I think including one additional snacking-dessert is fine, I don't really like cake, so I always appreciate other sweet options.  I think one of the sweet cheese balls and the stuffed mushrooms sound like good options.

I hadn't thought about the dip seeming masculine, but the more I think about it I agree with you.  I really want to try it since I have heard some rave reviews of it, but I guess I will have to wait for a different party to try it out.  I think I am leaning toward the stuffed mushrooms (not sure which version to make), the raspberry swirl cheesecake cupcakes and one of the dips (I am thinking the chocolate chip one, but am not sure).  I am still a little undecided, but I appreciate the suggestions and tips.  I am almost there, but not quite, so any other thoughts on the choices would be great!  Thanks!

  • If you are looking for other ideas, I love blanched asparagus wrapped in proscuitto with balsamic syrup drizzled over them.   Little caprese skewers are always a big hit.  Little phyllo cups filled with chicken salad.  Hmmmm.  Those are the favorites that have been at most showers I have been too.  Another one that I make that is my favorite is crostinis spread with goat cheese, sprinkled with walnuts, fresh thyme leaves, black pepper, and drizzled with honey.
  • How about chicken salad in phyllo cups.  That would be easy to handle.  Or the ham poppyseed sandwiches.
