car poll...

I was in a car accident on Friday and my car was totaled so I am now in the search for a new car (well after I get off bed rest and we get our check).  I had a Toyota Solara and loved it!  We definitely want 4 door and something that can grow with us.  I have always had Toyota's and Dh has a Honda and we have been very happy with his also.  If we get a SUV I want something that has pretty good gas mileage.

For the ladies that have children - any advice that you have that makes your car easier would be appreciated (besides the fact that it is 4 door)!

Also if you recommend a particular car do you have any pro's/con's.

Thanks guys!

Re: car poll...

  • OOOO I feel your pain.  I had a Toyota Solara and it got totalled in May, we hit a deer.  I miss that car everyday of my life, LOL.  I've got an Acura TL now and it's got 4 doors and drives great.  Good power and XM radio ready.

I would go with Honda's or Toyotas.  They seem to last FOREVER.  I really LOVE the new Maxima's and also the new Altimas, yet I'm not sure about Nissan.  I tend to stick with what I know and I know that hondas and toyotas are great cars.

GL in your search. Glad you weren't hurt in the accident.

  • I don't have any kids, but I think that any 4-doors or SUVs would be sufficient.

You could look into a Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord.  I've heard that camrys are good cars and Honda's typically have high safety ratings.  I'm looking into getting a CR-V in the next couple of years and they have good gas milage.

Good luck with your search and I'm glad that you're ok!

    Siggy coming soon....
  • I have an 08 Honda Accord.  I love it.  It is my first time owning a Honda and I am thinking I'll probably never stray :)  I was really surprised when I was looking how roomy it is inside.  Plenty of room in the backseat.  The trunk is pretty large too.

If you wanted to go for an SUV I suggest the Honda Pilot.  It looks to have plenty of room.  My friend drives one, and she has two kids, one in a carseat and one in a booster, and it holds all their stuff nicely.

    Good Luck with the search.

  • Ryan drives a Honda Fit, and we LOVE that car. He gets an average of 38 mpg in the city, and the seats can fold in such a way that you wouldn't need a truck for most of the tasks you think you would. We fit the 46" tv we bought a couple weeks ago in there, as well as the tv stand (solid wood) we bought for it. We kept making corny jokes about how that's why they named it the Fit -- everything fits in there.

  • Love my 4 Runner and although my kids are now grown, it would have been soooo much easier getting them in and out of the vehicle and carseats if I'd had something like this when they were small. It would have saved my back for sure. It's never given me one moment's problem. I've put LOTS of miles on it since we drove it off the lot...would buy another one in a heartbeat.
  • I have a 2008 Chevy Malibu.  I like it.  It's nice and roomy.

  • First off, I'm so glad you and baby are ok!!

Now- as for cars- I got a 2006 Honda CRV right before Hannah was born and I just recently traded it in for a 2008 model.  I love it- it holds all of my crap, it was easy to get the infant seat in/out back when we needed that and it gets pretty good gas mileage for an SUV!  (It averages about 25/26 MPG)  Love it!

  • I had a ford escape! I loved it! It was really good on gas milage! ::Sigh:: How I miss that car. I now have a ford focus, (I used to work for Ford) it's ok just don't get a 4 cylinder
