Yasmin..

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I just wanted some advice/feedback concerning my birth control...

I've been on yasmin for the past 5 1/2 years. It has been great. I had no side effects (I didn't gain any weight, no nausea, no headaches, etc). But I would say within this past year I feel like my body has been responding differently to it. I have gotten two yeast infections within a few months of each other and I think I may be getting another one (which may not seem like a lot but I have never had one prior to this). And I feel like my sex drive has dropped. Not terribly, but I've noticed it.

I guess my question is after being on the pill for so long can your body just suddenly change? And does anyone have any recommendations for another pill? I have an appointment with my doctor next week to discuss it. Thanks in advance.

Re: Yasmin..

  • IDK, but I was on Yasmin for almost 8 years. I loved it, it worked great on my PMDD. Actually, my Mirena just came out, on it's own, for the second time in 10 months and i'm going back on Yasmin.

Has anything else been going on? This may sound weird, but are you making sure to pee after sex? Are you over worked, over tired? All kinds of things can affect your sex drive, so I honestly doubt it's the Yasmin.

  • I do always make sure to pee after sex. I've heard that it can cause infections if you don't. I'm not over worked or tired at the moment since I've been on summer vacation from school.

The reason I suspect it is the yasmin affecting my sex drive is because the one week during the month that I am taking the white placebo pills (the week you get your period) my sex drive shoots back up and dulls down once I go back on the yellow hormone pills. It really isn't that bad since we still have sex really frequently and once I get started I'm into it. I just feel sluggish beforehand.

Plus the random yeast infections all of a sudden. Like I said it has only happened a few times but I have never had it happen before.

  • I have been on Yasmin for five years as well! Recently I have been having similar symptoms that you have been having. My sex drive has dropped except for when im on the placebos and I have been getting UTI's a lot more frequent. I kind of wonder if they changed the drug? crazy i know but I have heard of a lot of women going through these weird phases as well! please let me know what your doctor says!

  • I definitely will. I also forgot to mention that I used to pay $3 a month for the yasmin but since they came out with the generic brand (ocella) my insurance company is now charging $20 for yasmin!  I know the generic brand is supposed to be the same thing but I've heard bad things about ocella.
  • I have heard that your body can just suddenly start reacting differently to hormone forms of birth control. I've been on Yasmin for 2.5 years, and so far so good (I had a few yeast infections in the beginning, but that stopped within 6 mos). It seems to be the one that everyone likes! That said, it might be worth switching to see if your symptoms go away. See what the doctor says.
    Life is good today.
