Interview to Offer?

I am curious, what is the longest amount of time that you waited from the point that you interviewed until you received an offer? Also, what would you consider a standard/average length of time that most people wait?

He's my fairytale, a dream when I'm not sleeping.

Re: Interview to Offer?

  • I waited for 3 weeks for an offer; however, two weeks should be the standard.

  • With my new job, my first interview (a phone interview with HR) was on July 14. I had two more in-person interviews, and received an offer on August 12. It was about a week and a half after my last interview that I got the offer.

  • In my experience, an offer usually comes less than a week after a final interview.

  • For my current job, I had one in-person interview the end of February 2008, had another interview April 2008 and received an offer the day of that interview.
  • For the job I am starting in just a few weeks, I was first called to interview 3 weeks ago Friday, actual first interview the following Thursday, second interview last Thursday morning.  By 10:30 that night I had an unofficial offer, finalized Monday (after background/reference check).  Current job I received the offer 3 days after the third interview.  My overall experience has been anywhere from an offer at the end of the initial interview (that happened twice) to a few days later.

  • I have found that the higher level the position, the longer the interview and offer process. When I first started out in the professional world, it wasn't uncommon for an offer during a first interview. As I've gotten further into my career, the process has gotten longer. With my most recent position, it was about two months from my first interview to offer. My first interview, however, was via Skype. Then I had a couple of phone interviews. Then, when I arrived on location, I had an in-person interview. This was followed by one more phone conversation discussing more specific details of the position. My offer came about a week after the final phone conversation.
  • The longest I've waited is about 2 weeks. But a girl was just hired at my company who was interviewed over a month ago (entry-level position).

  • The longest I had to wait was early June (initial interview), had final interview in August, and received an offer the last week in September. It was for a Development position at a university. Apparently they were required to check references on everyone they had a final interview with before giving an offer, and one other candidate had given a reference that was out of the country for over a month. Unfortunately by the time I recieved an offer I had given up hope and taken another job.
  • I interviewed on a Friday and received the verbal offer/official offer almost two weeks later on the dot. I think two weeks was the longest I have ever waited for a job offer.

     Hang in there!

  • I believe I've waited up to two weeks.  Three weeks to even a month is pretty standard for some positions that required background checks or pre- employment testing.
