Droid Incredible

DH just got the Incredible a few days ago. So far he really likes it but he noticed that the signal strength indicator has never gone about 1-2 bars...when normally he'd have at least 3 on his previous phone. He also said that the 3G indicator is usually greyed out. Or it says 1X instead.

Has anyone had similar issues with the Incredible? Are these nothing to worry about?

Re: Droid Incredible

  • Has he had any connectivity problems?  Have his phone calls been dropped?  If he's not experiencing any actual interference with his use of the phone, I wouldn't worry about it.

I will say that as much as I love my Incredible, there is no question that my signal strength for phone calls is rarely as good as it was with a good old-fashioned mobile phone, and phone calls tend to sound a bit more tinny.  However, I've never had a single dropped call.

  • He probably needs to update his roaming capability.  If he has Verizon he can do this by dialing *228 and them pressing 2.  If this doesn't work, he should probably take it into to a store to have it checked out.

  • Well, we figured out the 3G issue. It was never on because we the wireless was on so the phone didn't need to use 3G.

We still haven't figured out the signal strength. I did an upgrade to his roaming capabilities and it's still only a bar or 2 of signal strength. However, he hasn't mentioned having any issues making/receiving calls or texts and from what I've read on other message boards it might just be a calibration issue with the phone. Not a huge deal but we might take it into the store just to be sure.

The newest issue that he's had is the battery life. I tinkered around with it last night and I think I've gotten it figured out - but have any of you had issues with the battery life being really short?

This is a HUGE complaint of Incredible owners.  I lurk on an Incredible forum and if I had to pick one overall theme of all the tens of thousands of posts, it's battery life.  Will this app kill my battery?  How much battery power do you get from a one-hour charge?  Does your battery charge more quickly with Froyo? Is it better to leave your phone plugged in overnight or just until the battery is 100%?  How do I see the breakdown of what is using my battery power?  What music app won't kill my battery? And on and on.

If it makes you feel better, this is a pretty common problem with smartphones.

Glad you figured out the 3G issue.  I remember having to figure that one out as well and not realizing that wi-fi would trump if unless I changed the setting (and BTW, wi-fi eats less battery power so tell him to use it when he can!).

Yes, that's a common thing with smartphone from what I hear.

What helped me is to get a task-killing app. (I use Advanced Task Killer). Search for "task killer" and select an app. After you download it, go into it about once a day or so and kill whatever's running.
