Spending my anniversary in Charleston - suggestions?
DH and I are going to be travelling over our anniversary and staying in Charleston. Any suggestions on romantic places to stay and for dinner?
Thanks!
Re: Spending my anniversary in Charleston - suggestions?
For hotels, it all depends on your price point. The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island is gorgeous, very romantic and has amazing restaurants. It's also very expensive.
In town, Charleston Place Hotel, Francis Marion Hotel, Mills House or one of the city's many B&Bs would be great.
For restaurants, The Oak, Charleston Grill (see my write up here), Cypress or High Cotton would all be good options. This city has a ton of restaurants in as many different price points, so it's really a matter of how much you're willing to spend.
also for restaurants try mccrady's, pennisula grill, hank's seafood, hominy grill, fleet landing, & jestine's kitchen. those are my favorite downtown places.

I am from Chas. and I would recommend staying downtown...
In terms of places to stay, I recommend the FABULOUS 2 Meeting Street Inn. It is a Queen Anne Victorian house built as a wedding gift (i.e. cute spot for an anniversary). They have a website. If you are looking for something more hotel-like, then I recommend the Market Pavilion Hotel on East Bay and Market Streets.
Places to eat/drink. Definitely check out the Rooftop Bar on the corner of Vendue Range and East Bay Streets. Eat at Il Cortile Del Ray if you like Italian, or if you like upscale craft American cuisine, check out The Charleston Grill at Charleston Place. Also, check out the bars along upper King Street in the Design District.
The possibilities are endless. What a great place for an anniversary get-a-way!

Back in February the DH and I took a spontaneous inexpensive trip to Charleston for the weekend. We stayed at The Palms Hotel on Isle of Palm. It ran about $120 or so for us/night. It was really inexpensive but we were pleased!
We got an oceanfront room and it was great for the price. Here's their website: http://www.thepalmshotel.us/. Next time we'll either stick with the palms or try out the wild dunes resort!
If you've never been before you have to go to Hyman's Seafood. I know it's a touristy place to visit but the food is excellent and we sat at a table where Sandra Bullock, Vanilla Ice, and some other great celebrities also have sat. It's so fun! You can find coupons for free appetizers all over Charleston.
The hotel is 20 minutes or so away from downtown. It was a perfect getaway!
