Hosting a football party

Well this is my first college football season with my husband (we were planning our wedding last year) and since it starts this SATURDAY!!  We are having ppl over at our new apartment, since I am new to this whole hosting thing I need some help with a menu and stuff.

What I have so far:

Beer, cheese dip, chips, pizza rolls

Any suggestions??

Re: Hosting a football party

  • Meatball subs - make meatballs and sauce day or two ahead (can be frozen, too, but you are talking this Sat. right?). Throw in crockpot during party, buy finger rolls (for small sammies) and let people self-serve. You can put some provolone or shredded mozzeralla out too.

Chili - make sure you have toppings: tortilla chips, shredded cheese, sour cream.

Wonton wrappers with sausage. Season sausage with ginger, green onions, soy sauce, garlic, s&p. Put tsp or less of meat on center of wonton, fold up and twist in little purse pocket, place in mini-muffin pan. Bake 425 for 15 mins. Make a dipping sauce - check out Foodnetwork for ideas.

Big garden salad with optional extras - carrots, cukes, onions, olives, etc. I like a salad to balance off all the chips, cheese and meat.

    Guacamole.

  • fresh fruit and/or veggies, hummus, or something slightly healthier.

  • Wings.

I make a mean layered dip.

    Meatballs.

    Cocktail wieners.

  • Buffalo chicken dip is always a crowd pleaser.  There are tons of different ways to make it if you google it.  It's best when it's baked (vs. crockpot or stove top).

There is also a twist on 7 layer dip that I make.  I haven't made it since last football season so I will do my best to remember the order....

Guac is the first layer in your pyrex or whatever
    Chunky salsa
    Diced tomatoes
    Green onions
bacon bits (the real bacon, not actual bits)
shredded cheese (cheddar or mexican blend)
    sprinkle with basil

You could also change that 7 layer to what suits you best.

I also agree with the PP about having some healthier options...ie veggies for the dips.

  • My good friend taught me this recipe and it's amazing!

    1 roll of Sausage

    2 packages of cream cheese

    1 or 2 cans of Ro-Tel

melt it all together in a crockpot and walla! (sorry, ML lingo)

aaaamazing!  Spicey but so good! :)
