Evening Couples Baby Shower - Heavy Apps Needed
We're having a couples baby shower in October. I'd like to do apps rather than full on dinner, though we'll probably start the party at around 6:30 so we need to have some stuff that's heavy enough to count as dinner in case some don't eat first. I have a few ideas but wanted to hear any other suggestions:
baked brie in puff pastry with mango chutney
chicken satay with peanut dipping sauce
bacon wrapped dates
filipino bbq (marinated grilled pork kebabs)
Thinking about:
buffalo chicken dip
veggies & dip
dollar roll sandwiches
Any input/ideas would be great. Thanks!

How about a stuffed mushroom? Sausage-stuffed mushrooms or cheese stuffed mushrooms
What's the tone of the party? The brie sounds more formal whereas the buffalo chicken dip sounds more informal? Do you have a theme? That might make it a little easier to comment/recommend suggestions. (Everything sounds good on its own, but doesn't seem to go well together)
I would do the following:
Chicken Satay, Fillipino BBQ, Sliced Beef Tenderloin on Crostini with Horseradish Cream
Marinated Shrimp, Bacon Dates, Baked Brie, Twice-Baked Gorgonzola New Potatoes (they tiny ones), Proscuitto wrapped in Asparagus, Pesto and Goat Cheese stuffed Cherry Tomatoes, Cheese Ball/Spread of some sort
Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Mini Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwiches, Cheesecake Bites, Miniature Cupcakes
a soup would also be a good idea, clam chowder? tomato soup? try a semi-homemade idea with canned soups and some nice croutons.
a roast would also be an easy idea or a baked ham. easy and filling!
Kraftfoods has a great recipe for baked crab rangoon. You can find it on their website. You can make the filling ahead and then just fill and bake! They even sit okay at room temp so you don't have to worry about them being piping hot. Trader Joe's has a great sweet chili sauce that goes great!
This is yummy - basically artichoke dip stuffed into crescent roll dough:

What about pigs in a blanket or sliders (or both...) You can dress up the pigs in a blanket by making them with gourmet sausage, and you can do gourmet sliders with a variety of cheeses/toppings.
