Thoughts? I do not think this has officially been announced, but supposedly the divisions are as follows:
According to the two people, one six-team division will include Michigan,
Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Northwestern, while the other will
have Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue and Indiana.

I am a little surprised they did not put Michigan and Ohio State together.
Re: Big Ten Divisions
I think it's a "travel partner" issue, though geographically, Minnesota is a little out there relative, and Wisconsin would be a better partner.
Remember - sports are not ruled based on football alone. People forget that. There are still sports like basketball, baseball, track (indoor and outdoor), field hockey, hockey, cross country, swimming and diving, etc.
Michigan/Ohio State is largely seen as a traditional football rivalry and while it may have been a factor, might not have been the primary driver in the decision making process.
And there are 3 guaranteed games that teams get; meaning every year, at least with football, schools are guaranteed three games every year with a given team. Michigan State will play Penn State (both land grant schools), Michigan (in state rival) and crap... I forget the third. But similarly, Wisconsin will always play Minnesota and so forth.
As an avid Nebraska fan, I'm liking it!
I'm a little nervous for our 2011 schedule (I think maybe we're being "hazed" a bit -- it'll be tough!!) but I'm also looking forward to the challenge and some big games! I'm trying to figure out if I can get to Minneapolis, Madison and Ann Arbor!
Welcome to playing with the big boys!!!!
I'm liking the divisions. I don't care so much that PSU loses playing Mich State every year for the land grant trophy. I think its a welcome change.
What do you think the conference name will be? I'm torn between Big 10 3.0 and Big 12 2.0
I think these divisions only apply to football, at least that is what the article I read today stated. I do not think they have announced anything for any other sports.
I know the ACC does things differently for football than basketball.
I didn't read the article, so who knows.
H's opinion was that if you put OSU and Michigan in opposing divisions, then if they both have bang-up seasons, then it guarantees they play each other in a Big 10 championship. Of course, at this point Michigan is far from a great season but that's the thought.
I suppose it won't be the Big Televen, but I do love the hidden "11" in the lettering of "Big Ten"
When the Big 8 dissolved and the Big 12 was born, Nebraska and Oklahoma lost their rivalry game, too. It stunk. So I feel your pain on that one.
We are soooo looking forward to Iowa for our after Thanksgiving game though!
Everything I have read has said Ohio St v Michigan will still be the last game of regular season. They might just end up playing each other the next week in the Big Ten Championship game.
