The time has come ...
to say goodbye to my tomato plants. The blazing hot summer has taken its toll on my plants and this weekend, I'm ripping them out. I am still watering my cukes because they are still producing (I have 4 on the vines right now), but after I harvest those, I'll pull them out too.
Can someone play Taps for my tomato plants?

We pulled ours last weekend--they got blight and I couldn't fix them.
I'm planting beets and carrots where they were this weekend.
Mine are still doing ok. I didn't water them since that one time the day I planted them. We got 0.37 of an inch of rain for the entire month of August. They only gave me a few small tomatoes, but since our last rain right at the beginning of September, I see flowers again! Who knows, I might get more fruit before frost.
The nice thing about my garden is that it doesn't mind being ignored for weeks at a time. When we have a drought, the roots just grow deeper until they find moist soil. It's like the neglect makes them stronger.
