2 iPhones on 1 iTunes account

I have the iPhone 4 but I let my kids play the apps on my iPhone 3G.

How can I sync my apps on both phones using 1 iTunes account?

I have tried to figure it out and googled as well but it's not working.

  • I didn't think you could, actually.

  • Well, according to people on Mac forums it's possible but apparently iTunes isn't user friendly for me. :) It may be for others but it's just not happening on my end.

  • I have 1 iTunes account and it's backed up for my iPhone 4.

I restored my 3G because it was giving me problems and then iTunes asked me if it was a new phone. I selected the option that yes it was and renamed it something other than my iPhone 4.

I was able to move any apps that my husband had on his old 3G that were free but the ones that were paid for I couldn't because I didn't have the iTunes password for his phone handy.

He had music on his 3G that I wanted to transfer to my 4 but it wouldn't work. If I had the music on my 4 already it'd let me transfer it to him though. My backup with my iPhone 4 on iTunes is like the master backup I guess. If it's not on my phone I can't transfer it to it if it's music.

To get the music on my phone we'll use his external hard drive to put it on my computer then I'll add it to my iTunes and then sync my phone to it.

So, I have 3 iPhones on my one iTunes account basically.

DH and I each have two iPhones on each of our iTunes accounts.  We kept our old phones and use them basically as iPod touches around our house with our home wireless.  We keep one upstairs and one in the kitchen; it's very handy to be able to check mail or google something quickly, or listen to music while cleaning or cooking.  We sync the music and apps with iTunes the way we always have.
