Store Rewards

It always seems that you get those key-fobs for different rewards programs that never really pay off.  Well, I had one for Bass- VanHeusen- Izod that I never saw anything from.  This weekend I mentioned that to the sales person and she told me I had to register my card online, which I did today.  Turns out I'm getting a $10 welcome certificate and ....drumroll please.... $70 in rewards credit!!!  I can't wait to go shopping for free!

What store rewards programs have you found to actually be rewarding??

Re: Store Rewards

  • This is an interesting topic EA!  I'm sorry more people haven't responded.

Unfortunately, since I don't frequently shop in places anymore that offer rewards, any "bonuses" I may receive are significantly fewer and farther between (For instance, I think Lowes Foods will give you a $5 gift certificate for every $200 you spend--or something like that.)  When I had a Nordstrom closer to me, I used to rack up their rewards pretty quickly--I think they give you $20 for every $500 you spend with their credit card--and their credit card company was always REALLY fair (imo--it was one that wouldn't "punish" you for paying off your balance each month) and had outstanding customer service the few times I had problems from my end.  Their coupons have expiration dates on them, but I've never had one rejected because it was expired--but now, because the closest one is Charlotte I might go but once a year--if that often.  I switched using that card simply because I couldn't use the coupons, but I'm considering going back just because I like their credit service so much.

Besides that, I haven't really found any other rewards services that have worked out well for me.  I think Southwest airlines "might" have a pretty good frequently flier plan, but it's not really MY ideal situation since they fly out of Raleigh and I can't fly directly to NY.  I most often fly USAir, but I the trip from here to NY doesn't rack up mileage fast enough for me to benefit much.

BTW, I don't really go out of my way to shop anywhere that has a rewards program.  I'm kind of a marketing nightmare in that regard, because frequently I WON'T sign up for a program even if a store offers it.

  • I really like Kroger's reward card, you earn coupons in the mail plus the gas rewards are great. (You get .10 off per gallon for every $100 in groceries).

I use the Toys R Us/Babies R Us rewards program and have earned free diapers plus a lot of reward coupons. This one is great for holiday shopping, even if you don't have kids.

Unfortunately I don't think many stores I shop at have actual reward programs, just coupons, special sales etc.

  • Hmm, we have a Harris Teeter card, but that is more like a coupon than a reward. Not sure if I have really gotten much from any type of store reward. I may have gotten some money off at Borders, but that was a couple years ago and I do not remember the details.
