Lurker needs your help. Havana Nights Themed Party

Hello ladies, I'm a lurker here, and I'm I was hoping I could get some suggestions for a Havana Nights Themed Party I'm throwing for my husband's 30th Birthday Party.  It will be about 40-50 people. This is what I have so far:

Ham Croquettes

Plaintains and mojo sauce

Cheese pastries

Fruit Tray

Ham/Cheese Tray

Mini Cuban Sandwiches

Guava and Cheese

Artichoke Dip

Seven layer dip

This is what I have so far.  Does that sound llike enough food for a heavy appetizers party?  Any suggestions you can think of would be truly appreciated.  TIA:)

  • It sounds great to me - I love the theme!!
  • My only problem with this menu is that there is a lot of ham and cheese dishes.  As someone who doesn't like ham or cheese, it really limits my options.

I don't really know much about Cuban food, but I stumbled across this site and I think there are some good options here:

  • You could add something like a spicy sweet potato fry or mixed green salad. Like PP mentioned, there's lots of ham/cheese on there. I know I've said this before, but I have lots of vegetarian & lactose-intolerant friends (and some who are both!) so I try to make sure there's at least a few good options for them as well.

Have you thought about a bar menu? Rum drinks are a must -- Cuba Libre and Mojito come to mind first.

  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies!  SA thanks for the link.  I love the idea of Yuca fries and will add that to the menu as a non meat/dairy option. I'm also adding a simple recipe of ceviche that the family loves that I'll put into cups.
So do you guys think that should be enough food for 50 people?  The party is at 8pm so its well after everyone has eaten so I figure we should be ok but then again I haven't had a huge party like this before.
The party will be located at a cigar bar so there will be plenty of mojitos and cuba libres:)
Thanks again for all your suggestions ladies:)
  • Sounds fun!  I made ceviche the first time for my birthday in April and it went over really well!
