Are you getting any rain?
Here in VA we're in a severe drought. We've averaged under 1" per month (I think) since SPRING. My annuals (same ones I plant every year) look like do-do even with plenty of water because of the intense heat and searing sun. I guess it was nice to enjoy them for a few months, but this year they crapped out early. Only the portulaca is still standing! Thank goodness I haven't lost anything really valueable.
Sorry for any of you who are being flooded out right now, I'm praying for another hurricane... and I hope it comes a little closer than South Carolina this time.

Re: Are you getting any rain?
Nothing here in NJ either. We are over 4.5" down since June. We were down 6" but got some heavy rain about 2 weeks ago but nothing since. We were hoping Earl would skirt by here too and drop a few inches of rain but we got spritz and that's it!!!
Our grass is deader than dead - we don't have sprinkler system and watering was banned in mid-July. The trees are all dropping leaves - some areas it looks like late-October so many brown ones are on the ground and many others you can tell have dead patches. I've managed to keep my vinca looking good with can watering but like you - everything else is do-do. You made me feel better with this post knowing you are struggling too!
By the way, I canned that house with the beautiful backyard. It was just going to be too much work and while I do like yard work - I don't like that much yard work. DH wasn't happy with me but I think he is over it now.
Yes, we're getting rain. We wish we were getting more sun. Want to trade places?

I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. What's "rain"?
I can't really complain though. We have rainy season and dry season, so it's normal to have no rain for 5 months. At least we know what to plan for. I'd probably lose some of my favorite things if we did get summer rain
Good luck with the rest of the season. I think our rain will start up in a few weeks (yea!).
No, but I'm in NoVA (and you've already stated the VA drought). Super hot summer and no rain has caused me to pull up my summer veg garden early.
I'm hoping it rains soon.

Don't drink the water.

Have you seen my monkey?
I'm wishing for more sun too, I think otherwise my butternut squash will be a lost cause.
I know it's late the answer, but it's been very dry here. I've run the soaker hoses on my hostas more than normal. Also, I noticed the leaves curling on the azaleas (never had to water those separately last year) and smaller crabapples than normal. And don't even ask about the ferns =( they keep laying down flat and a bunch turned to toast early in the summer.
Oh yeah, the dry weather means less for the bunnies to eat, so they ate most of my lilies along with anything else that looked interesting.
