looking to move to the Brookfield area from NY - suggestions?

Hi...DH and I moved from Westchester up to Dutchess a few years ago to ease the tax burden. While we love our home, we're not in love with the area (kinda in the middle of nowhere) and are starting to research CT. We have relatives in Brookfield and we know that we'd save a bit on taxes and we'd be a lot closer to shops and restaurants, something we really want.

We just started considering the Brookfield area so we have lots of research to do...just thought I'd reach out to see if anyone here can shed some light on the area (i.e. schools, things to do, proximity to shops and eateries, etc).

My father and his wife live in Brookfield and a few years ago I lived with them for a few months.  It is a really nice area.  Woodsy, but still close to civilization.  They live in a small non-gated community, actually it's two communities right next to each other owned by the developing company. The back of their house is right on a pond.  If you are interested, their community is called Carriage Houses on the Pond and it includes Black Swan Court and another small street.  The other community is Meridian Ridge (on Meridian Ridge Drive, technically in Newtown), which boasts bigger houses.  I don't know if any of these are for sale but its worth checking out.  Also try Secor Road.  All these areas are suburban, if a bit woodsy, but they are 5-10 minutes (or less) to more commercialized areas in Danbury, Bethel, and Newtown where restaurants and shops abound.  Also, in the summer, Candlewood Lake is a good spot to spend a day.

I live in the surrounding towns to brookfield, and it is really close to danbury for the mall, and movie theatre.  There is candlewood lake for the summer right in the town, and the edge of brookfield/ danbury has lots of shopping- groceries/ furniture/ restaurants/ costco.  Brookfield schools are excellent!!! I am a teacher (currently working for waterbury schools) did my student teaching in Brookfield, and they have really great teachers, good test scores, their students are well rounded academics/sports/community oriented.  I would not even think twice about moving into brookfield! go...LOL
