Critique My Menu: Wine Tasting Party
I am throwing a wine and cheese tasting party on Friday for approximately 5-7 of my girlfriends. This is my menu so far:
-4 different types of wine with cheeses (the wine guy at the store is pairing everything up for me)
-Cheesy Artichoke Cups (like wonton cups filled with a cheesy artichoke mixture)
-Tomato and Mozarella Salad (served cold)
-Cut up sourdough bread with an speciality olive oil
Anything else I should include or does that seem like enough?
Re: Critique My Menu: Wine Tasting Party
I love cheese (probably too much)... so I'd be totally down with your menu. When I do wine and cheese parties though, I like to also put some nuts and dried fruit on the cheese board. I typically do almonds and maybe one other kind of nut (usually unsalted) and dried cherries and apricots. You could also get some salami or other sliced italian meat that people could eat with the crackers and cheese or with the bread.
Sounds fun! And I'd love to hear what the pairings were that your wine guy came up with!
It sounds very tasty, but I agree that some non-cheese-y foods would be a nice addition (and probably appreciated by guests).
Most of these have been listed, but I would include: nuts, chocolate (maybe fondue with fresh fruit), veggies or veggie skewers, a meat platter.
I agree with these ideas and the chocolate. Red wines + chocolate = delicious! Also keep in mind that there are no "rules" for wine tasting, if you prefer a cheese that was supposed to go with another wine for something else, that's great! Everybody's palate is unique!
maybe an antipasto platter with salamis, olives, artichokes, etc...
chocolate truffles - definitely!
