Good evening from Texas! My fiance and I have recently decided to move to Milwaukee this next June after we get married and end the school year as teachers here in Austin. I am very excited about the move but also overwhelmed with planning the wedding here but also finding out all of the info I can about our soon to be home without actually getting to visit there until Mayish. Soooo I have couple of questions for the locals!!!
Where are some good areas of the Milwaukee area to live/ rent a home? Any recommendations on must see places around town? Does anyone know of a good relator that may be able to help us find a house to rent? Any other suggestions would be much appreciated!!! Thank you!!!

Re: Transplant Soon
Hi! You are brave moving up here from Texas. I live in Oak Creek which is slightly south of Milwaukee. I love it. Its nice and quiet and is close enough to commute and all that but far enough away that it isn't a terribly big city. I also know people like Shorewood and Whitefish Bay.
I would check Craigslist for houses or apartments for rent. I'm not sure if realtors do renting. My mother in law writes loans so if you want to buy, let me know! I can give you her name. She has a realtor friend named Melody Elliot that is in Milwaukee. You can look her up and see if she does renting.
Good luck!
(Almost) Welcome! It's nice to see people choosing to move to the area, although Lord knows you must be crazy to put up with the cold weather
I would say definitely don't buy a house until you've been in the area awhile and determine what area is right for you. Renting is a great idea! What are you looking for in a house/neighborhood? The Milwaukee area is pretty diverse, and the greater Milwaukee area offers a lot of options. We live in Franklin, and love it?.Just close enough to everything to be convenient, but not crowded enough to feel like we're living in a big city. Where will you be working? What area of town?
Things to see?honestly, there is a ton to do around Milwaukee, we are the city of festivals after all. Check out OnMilwaukee.com for calendars of events, etc. It all depends on what activities you enjoy, but there is probably something here that will match your interests.
My favorite neighborhood in Milwaukee is Bayview. It's south of downtown, close to the lake. Unfortunately, it can be a little hard to find a nice rental there, but it can be done. We live in a south suburb and tried to move to Bayview this summer, but it didn't work out. I'd kill to get out of the 'burbs.
After that, I'd look to either the East Side (north of downtown) or the Third Ward (downtown). Third Ward is pricier than the East Side, as it's mostly luxury-style apartment buildings. There are more flats and older buildings on the East Side, so there is a wider range of rents (there's also a wider range of quality). I would watch out for anything that's too close to UW-Miwaukee, as I wouldn't want to live on a block full of partying undergrads.
Wauwatosa and Shorewood are fine as far as suburbs go, but if you aren't concerned about schools for kids, I'd do Bayview/Third Ward/East Side for a while to really enjoy the city. Those areas all put you close to the lake and to a lot of restaurants and bars and whatnot.
Moving from Texas, you need to just be prepared that the Mexican food and BBQ here is...subpar, to put it nicely. But the cheese and beer are truly fantastic, so it's (mostly) a wash.
