Birthday party ideas for a 7 and 9 year old

I need help with birthday party ideas for a 7 year old boy and a 9 year old girl. This will be the last year I'll be doing their parties together. Were having the party in our back yard which is pretty big so we have lots of room. My son loves star wars and she loves fashion anything girly. For the girls I was going to have a table where there is nail polish and make up and hair stuff where they can do each others. For the boys I was going to look for stuff they can make star war light sabers or mask.

Any ideas?

TIA

  • Just a thought: Have a bounce house or something they can all enjoy then do taste specific cakes and goody bags.

  • the make up and nail polish could get super messy. Especially outdoors with excited suger-high children.

  • I agree with pp re: the make-up table getting messy... what about a face painter?  also... we went to a "Fancy Nancy" party where the host had dress up things for the girls - feather boas, tuile skirts etc.
  • If you're doing the party together, I would strive to have activities that are gender neutral that all kids can enjoy together. I think the PP suggestions of a bounce house and face painting would work great. You could do a dress-up chest with clothes for boys and girls in it.

If you wanted a craft area, I'd have a wide selection of things to choose from. Maybe things to make light sabers/swords/sheilds as well as princess crowns? But I'd have one big table where all the kids could work together. It would also help contain the mess.

  • You can always have a craft table. I'm doing foam picture frames for my DD's bday party. Her theme os ladybugs so I've bough a ton of ladybug and letter foams to decorate it with. Just a thought:)
  • I babysat for boy/girl twins for a bunch of years when I was in middle school/high school and always helped with their birthdays.  Some of the "greatest hits" were:

-candy pizzas (round large sugar cookies - strawberry jelly for sauce, then a bunch of toppings - fruit roll up peperoni, licorish black olives, etc.)

-Cookie mosaics - large shortbread squares - royal icing for glue - m&ms to deocrate in a pattern

    -T-shirt and tote bag painting

    Hope this helps!
