Re: Evansville

  • Hi!

there's not many of us Evansvillians on here, and I think all three of us are on the national Pets board for the most part, so feel free to wander over there with any more questions.

Do you know where you'll be staying?  If you're staying on the East Side (East of main st, green river road/ burkhardt area) there's loads of shopping (mall, best buy, smaller shopping centers, etc).

West Side is a little more low key, the only shopping is a kohls and walmart, for the most part.

A lot of the restaurants are chains, and they are always packed on the weekends.  This city loves to eat out.

There is a great local pizza place (Turoni's), and Hacienda has great tex-mex food, margaritas, and a fun atmosphere.  Los Bravos is the best real mexican food (so i've been told, i don't do mexican food).  Mandarin Garden is the best Chinese buffet, and Nagasaki the best hibachi grill (albeit expensive)

Downtown is the "Entertainment district"  Mostly, its the boat (Casino Aztar), and a few bars.  Ri-Ra's is a good mix between a college crowd (there's two colleges here) and adults, and they have good food.  There's a few local Italian places down there, too, Angelo's and Milano's.  There are a lot of local bars, too, all around town, and October will bring hay rides and haunted houses.

Most restaurants have copies of "News4U" laying around.  That's a local magazine that lets you know what is going on in the city  any given time (http://www.news4uonline.com/)

And, if you're coming in the first full week of Oct, its fall festival time!  This is a huge West Side event (I'm a west sider, you'll find a tongue in cheek war between west and east siders around here).  its a carnival put on by a group called the west side nut club. (http://www.nutclub.org).  Carnival rides, parades, and all the food booths are not-for-profits, usually this is the biggest fundraiser those booths have all year.  Its more interesting if you're from here, I know, but its a fun thing to do.  There's a talent show, and bands most every night

There's the museum (eh) and the zoo (amazonia is great, the rest.. eh).  Wesseleman woods and nature preserve, ball fields (with city organized teams), and Disc-golf courses.

Your DH will be here for awhile, and I love my city (can you tell?!).  I'd be glad to help you guys out in any way you want, even if you want a personal tour :)  You can email me at AudNicole08 at gmail dot com, too.

I'm not crazy, either, i've met lots of Nesties IRL, so they can vouch for me :)
