Yesterday the head of my organization at work (my boss's boss's boss lol) told us all that they'll be "sourcing" some of our work to another vendor. Sourcing, which is their new more political way of saying "outsourcing" or "we're going to lay you off and replace you with offshore people who are way cheaper and do crappier work". We're not exactly sure what the timeframe is...could find out who gets laid off as early as October or next year sometime. It really sucks. They're looking to source about 20% of our work right now with Phase 1 and maybe more if the first phase is successful in their eyes (i.e. they save money).
This would have been ok, since i've been expecting it as my department has been avoiding all the layoffs in my company for hte last year and a half and i knew we were going ot get it soon....but then we had a problem in work yesterday that seriously affecting testing of one of our applications (i work in IT) and it was totally my fault because i forgot to put in a request for something. And the guy who held the meeting about hte layoffs even told me that i really F-ed up.
So when i was not too concerned about being on the chopping block, now i feel like im a great candidate for someone that they'll get rid of since i cost them time and money with my mistake. I just feel like a complete idiot. ![]()
And on top of that, im working over 12 hours today, i have to work Friday night 7pm-2am saturday, then go sleep for a few hours to be back in the office 6am-4pm saturday. and then im on call/pager the rest of the weekend and all of next week ill be working long hours too. It sucks.
But im trying to keep a positive attitude and update my resume after i work all the crazy hours this week. I just hope that i dont get screwed by this junk...BOO to my company and the economy.

Re: Work Vent
I completely agree. I know it's hard, but try not to think that just because you made this one mistake that you're job might be in jeopardy. It happens, people make mistakes - we're only human. I think you're absolutely right to get your resume in order just in case.
Look at it this way - I know you've been frustrated with your job anyway....maybe this is a blessing in disguise and you'll be able to end up at a job that you really love doing.
And I'm super sorry about all those hours - that's a crazy insane amount of hours!
thanks ladies. normally im super obsessed with getting everything done and (not being modest) im an awesome employee. I got way far beyond the work that i have to do and always get praised for it. it just sucks so much that the one mistake ive made since ive been here the last 2 years was so visible to the higher ups. i know im prob just being too hard on myself but im so disappointed that i messed up. BOO.
yeah i really dont like my job at all, but my boss had a convo with me a day before the incident and said that he knew i was bored and was going to be putting me on more strategic planning work and projects that he knew would be right up my alley----hope this BS didnt change his ideas for that. i am going to still update that resume and get it out there, though. cause with this stupid outsourcing who knows who will stay and who will go. maybe ill be lucky and not get laid off or maybe ill find another job that better suits me and has less shitty hours (or at least able to get overtime pay -- salary sucks!)
i knew you ladies would be able to make me feel better.
you all!!!
