Baptism gift?

Hi--not sure where to ask this question, so I've decided to start with my home board first! My husband and I were invited to our friend's daughters baptism next month. This is a close friend of mine, so we are planning on attending. My question is... what kind of gift do you give for a baptism? This is the first baptism event I've been invited too so I'm a little lost. Would it be appropriate to give a savings bond? Or are those out? I'm lost! lol.

Re: Baptism gift?

  • Hmm I have been to a couple baptisims. I am not sure if savings bonds are still around but what about getting a 2010 silver eagle coin which is an ounce of silver would be about $25 or you could get a 2010 mint set (which is every coin made this year) both of these things can grow in value. And yes I do work in a coin store...lol. My other ideas would be a silver picure frame or a silver rattle or you could give a piggy bank and put some money in it... Okay that is all the ideas I have!

These are all great ideas.  I really the piggy bank idea.  For both of our kids baptism's we received a ton of crosses, which are nice, but it's hard to hang up 10 of them in the same room.  Also, my son received a sterling teething ring from his godmother.  This has been great because it's the most sanitary thing for a baby to chew on and it's also on it's way to becoming a family heirloom. I think my SIL bought it at Macy's for around $40.

  • Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately, the teething ring route won't work for this baptism. The baptism is for a 2-1/2 year old! I think we might go the savings bon route... Or maybe go the piggy bank route... just not sure what to do yet.

    Thanks for the ideas though!
