We started getting this smell off and on a few days ago. Last night it was out of control! It smells like garbage/fish/cat pee. It's super nasty and it's coming from the kitchen (the kitchen/living room is all open - our apt is small). We've been taking out the garbage daily, and I cleaned out the fridge yesterday. The smell was there this morning when DH got up for school, and seemingly gone until I showered now. WTF!? I emailed our landlord at 2am since we were trying to figure this out and this should be his responsibility. He usually responds to my emails pretty quick (he has a BB). Nothing yet. I'm wondering if he knows about this issue, is researching it, tired of my complaints (I emailed on thurs/fri b/c the smoke detector was dead). This is nasty. We were close to getting a hotel last night and we're considering if we need to move (we only moved in july 15). Uuurgh!
Re: Something Stanks!
Garbage Disposal!
That was my first thought too.
Ah, garbage disposal. Duh. I'm blaming that on pregnancy brain. ;-)
Hmmmm - well, since you don't have one of those it probably is a dead animal of some sort...can't think of anything else. I hope you get an answer soon!!
I'm sure you've checked but maybe the power went out at night and stuff rotted in your fridge/freezer? I really dont know what else it could be...I hope its not a dead animal
No it's not that. I wish it was haha! I cleaned out anything that could've been going bad in the fridge the other day. There really wasn't anything stinky.
This ^^ everyone has given you all the suggestions I could give. Good Luck! I think a leak in the wall might be a good choice since it got worse once you showered!!!
I'm willing to bet money that if you've checked everything else, it's a dead animal.
My junior year of college my friends and I rented an entire house off campus and something died in our walls. It was the most disgusting, rankest, nastiest smell EVER. I actually packed up some stuff and stayed with Greg and his two slightly less smelly roommates for a little over a week! It was in the middle of winter and we had to open all the doors and windows just to breathe in living room!
If this really is the cause of your smell, then I'm sorry to say that short of tearing down the walls the only thing you can do is wait for it to finish rotting and dry up.
