Filing a claim on ebay/half.com

Has anyone ever had to file a claim on either ebay or their half.com site?

I ordered a nursing text book on August 16th. On the 18th, my credit card was charged for the amount and the sale is showing up "confirmed" under my purchases on the account.

The estimated delivery time given to me ended last week. I gave it a couple days and then contacted the seller asking for a confirmation or tracking number if possible; explaining that I still have not received the text book.

This was 3 days ago and I have yet to hear anything back from the seller.

Seller has a 100% rating, all reviews from previous buyers state that they received their items really quickly, great communication, etc. etc.

So my question is....how much longer do I wait to hear? If at all? How does it work to file a claim? Will they investigate it further or just give me a refund?

I'm hoping to not cause any issues with any seller or anything on ebay. I do a lot of shopping on there. But I want what I paid for!

Any suggestions?

  • I have no experience with Half.com. IMO  disputes directly through eBay are useless. Did you pay with Paypal? I believe you have 45 days to file a claim. It's been three weeks. Courtesy says you contact the seller privately first, then if the seller doesn't work with you, file a claim. If it is getting close to the 45 day mark without progress then file a claim anyway. Sorry this is happening to you.

  • I did not have one through ebay but I did have one through Craigslist. I disputed it through my bank and they handled everything for me. There was a 90 day grace period where the seller could come back and dispute. But the money was put in my account right away and never got disputed. Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be.

  • I've been selling stuff on ebay - sellers have 5 days to get things out in the mail.  I would threaten negative feedback and start the process now.  You'll either get your money or the book - usually works for me.
  • If the seller isn't being responsive, you can go through your bank or credit card company too.  I paid for something online with my Amex once, never got the product, turned it into amex and it was immediately credited to my account and then they go after the seller.
  • I would do some reading on the site before cancelling through your bank.  I just read the other day that if you go through your bank you will be banned from buying or selling, so if you like half or ebay, I would caution against that.  Have you checked your account on the site and looked at your purchases?  Perhaps the sale was cancelled; I had this happen to me.   You should have gotten an email, but if you're like me you may not always open emails from people you don't know.

Good luck.   I guess I would be at the point of contacting customer service to file a claim.
