Daily/Weekly Cleaning

Today I was talking to a co-worker about after work activities, since we get off of work at 2:30 she was curious as to what I do with all my time.  She was saying that most times she sits and watches TV and then cooks dinner then more TV then bed.  She then asked me what do I do.

I said well sometimes if I am particularly tired I will take a nap then cook dinner then clean up a bit and then get everything ready for the next day (i.e. anything I need to take with me bills, cards, lunch, treats if having a potluck or just feel like making something for my team) then shower then bed.  But most days I clean, do laundry, cook dinner, organize, currently work on wedding stuff, craft, read, and bake, watch TV, get ready for next day, shower, and then bed.  That way on the weekend most times it is just touch up cleaning/organizing, grocery shopping, creating weekly menu.

It seems that our weekends are usually packed with stuff so I don?t usually have a ton of excess time to be cleaning all day/weekend.  And honestly I only get two days off a week and don?t really feel like not doing anything fun.  Although let?s face it I love organizing!

So my question for you is what do you clean/organize daily, weekly even monthly. Because said co-worker was shocked at what I do when I get off of work which then in turned shocked me because I don?t think what I do is that outside the norm.

Re: Daily/Weekly Cleaning

  • Well I don't get home till after 6 so my nights after work usually consist of cooking dinner, cleaning up the kitchen, playing with the dog for a bit as he's alone during the day, spend a little time just chilling with DH and then it's time to get ready for bed.  Some nights I'll throw in laundry but most daily cleaning is stuff that I can multi task.  Most of my big cleaning is left for Saturday morning.

  • Most of the time I come home and relax for a couple hours, then start homework or cleaning up.  I break my night up quite a bit though.  I will watch an hour of tv, then clean the kitchen.  Once the kitchen is clean I will crochet and watch a movie or something like that.  While doing all this dinner is cooking and laundry is being done.

About an hour before bed I read for an hour, and then it is time for lights out.

  • Considering, I get off work between 3-4, and have to fit in 4 hours of studying, plus making dinner...I don't usually get anything else done before bed.

Which means we're cleaning on the weekends.  It's really not that time consuming though.  I like to get up early on Saturday (BB) and quickly run around the house doing the dusting, from one room to another.  Then run through with Dyson.  DH cleans the bathrooms in about 30-40 minutes and we're done.  Laundry gets done throughout whatever we are doing over the weekend.

My goal when I'm finished testing is to start doing 10 minutes of cleaning a day, and hopefully not spend more than that on any day in particular :)

  • Well my situation is a bit different because of my job.

Days that I work, I leave home at 6:15am and don't get home until 8pm at the earliest.  If I don't have to work the next day I'll usually spend time watching TV and cuddling with DH after dinner, but if I have to work again I really just eat dinner, prepare my lunch for the next day, shower and go to bed.

On my days off I usually straighten up the house, do laundry, run errands and I'm always doing some sort of cleaning - whether its just wiping down the counters or swiffering the floors.  Once a week I do my whole cleaning routine of bathrooms, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, deep cleaning the kitchen.  But since I keep up with my cleaning it really never takes me too long, and so I have a lot of down time on my days off.  Sometimes I practically die of boredom.  I need a hobby...

  • I pretty much clean every night after dominic goes to bed. It's nice that don's not home, so no one is here to bug me or get in my way lol

  • It is not that it takes me a horrendous amount of time to clean on the weekends it I just that we usually have a million other things going on... it is rare that we have a weekend where we are just home all weekend.  So for me/us I like to get that stuff done during the week so the weekend isn?t even crazier. • I usually do my big cleaning day on Saturday and odds and ends on Sunday. During the week, my schedule is pretty busy so I basically just cook, do dishes, and take out the garbage. I'm very jealous you get home so early every day!

Yea, I am usually home by 3:15 or 3:30 at the latest... I am sure when the time changes in the rest of the country we will change out hours a litttle but it is way better from when I would get home at 6.

  • I usually get home between 5:30 and 6:00pm.  On most nights, I only have times to make dinner, maybe do a load or two of laundry, clean up from dinner & veg on the laptop/watching tv for awhile before I go to bed.

Back when I got off work at 3:00, lived 5 minutes from said work, I was able to do all the cleaning and running errands during the week, leaving the weekends open.  Oh, how I miss those days!

  • ^^^^^^^ I am totally going to jack your schedule!

I need a cleaning list as part of my 101 in 1001

  • I'm more like your co-worker. i really WANT to be better at cleaning up daily but I'm just not. Even though we have lived together for a bit I am still finding it hard to get out of my routine from when I lived on my own and didn't really have much to clean up beside laundry and dishes.I like to clean as I go, but my husband is not that way at all. I find it hard to want to clean up after him and in turn makes me less motivated to keep up with my own stuff, no tthat our house is ever messy really, just not clean and everything in it's place like i was so used to on my own.

When CJ and I first started living together this was a big thing... he would just leave stuff EVERYWHERE and it drove me crazy lol so i sat down with him an simplly said, this is our place not just mine or yours but ours and we should be picking up after ourseleves not just one after the other.  lol and so hge got a lot better about picking up his stuff and staying tidy. lol Befor eliving with me he lived at home and his mom did everything and I was never raised that way so we have worked out a pretty good system to keep it up together...

I am nore the type I like to keep the house presentable and everything in it's place just in case someone uts pops by one day... Our house does have its moments of disorganization but since i started doing daily cleaning i find those times are few and far between.  someone just recently posted this thing on the Cleaning and Organizing board that is this daily quick clean up sechdule which is kind of a combo of what i do weekly.  it take i think 27 minutes but really makes a huge difference... I will see if i can find it...
