I saw this answer of yours in the food poll...

"~It's not a food.  We made homemade Limoncello from scratch and I still have like 4 or 5 bottles of it in my freezer!  My current guilty pleasure is a Limoncello & Tonic after dinner. SO flipping good!"

Do tell me more!!  How did you make it?!

  • ooohhh....here goes:

    2 bottles (750ml each) 100 proof vodka
    10-20 lemons
    4 cups sugar
    5 cups water
    Large sealable container

Pour one bottle of vodka into the large container. Zest the lemons and add the zest to the vodka. (Make sure not to get any pithe...its bitter!) Seal up the container and place it to steep in a cool dark place for 10 days.

At the end of 10 days, you then boil 4 cups of sugar (we used turbinado sugar.  It ends up have a darker tinge to it as opposed to being clear, but its more natural and tastes the same!) into 5 cups of water until the sugar is dissolved and it makes a nice thin syrupy mixture.  Once the sugar water has cooled, you add it to the container of lemon infused vodka.

(At this time, you also add a 2nd bottle of 100 proof vodka.)

Stir everything together, seal it tight, place it back in a dark cool place and let it steep anywhere from 60-80 days.

Once fermented, strain the limoncello using a cheesecloth until the liquid is free of sediment.  Pour it into bottles and place in the freezer to chill.  Keep chilled (freezer is the best place) and you can serve it as a dessert cordial after dinner, serve over vanilla ice cream, mix it with your favorite mixer, and enjoy!!!

Warning...it's really strong.  I don't drink it straight, although, you could if you wanted! Beer
